Kenneth Robert Baird, 84, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, cousin, friend, and resident of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2018 with his devoted wife, Kyong, by his side.
Ken was born on February 21, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan to Robert and Beatrice (Thurlow) Baird. He relished daily visits with his grandparents, Robert and Marian Baird, and enjoyed summers working on the farm with his grandfather and grandmother Thurlow.
He was a born leader and commissioned as an United States Air Force Officer on December 16, 1956 and retired as a Colonel after thirty honorable years of dedicated service. During his career, he fought in Vietnam and received numerous commendations to include: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and multiple commendation medals.
Kenneth was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and was blessed to be a part of a caring and supportive congregation. He was an avid car enthusiast and spent his leisure time restoring and exhibiting his Model-T's.
Kenneth married Kyong on Valentine's Day, and they were blessed to enjoy thirteen years of love, support, companionship, and happiness together.
Ken was an only child and was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; uncle, David (Susan) Baird; and uncle, E. Osbern Thurlow.
His legacy will be cherished by his wife, Kyong; daughters, Maj Christy (Capt Marlon) Cruz-Peeler, USAF, Kim (Daniel) Hussey, and Linda; grandchildren, Teigen Hussey, Kaiden Hussey, Mia Marie Peeler, and Rebecca; cousins, Mary Baird, Tom (Kathy) Baird, Robert (Bob) Thurlow, and Donna Thurlow; and many friends.
Visitation, 6:30PM-8:30PM, Friday, March 2, 2018 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
Funeral Service, 11:00AM, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
Graveside Service, 2:00PM, Monday, March 5, 2018 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3695 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235.
