Kenneth Jerome Carter, 83, of Colorado Springs, died Monday morning February 17, 2025. Born in Liberty, Missouri on October 3, 1941, he was the son of the late George and Christina (Mitchell) Carter. He married Betty Jean Cousins in 1960 and Mary Alice Howard in 1991. Kenneth retired as a Major in the United States Army after 20 years of dedicated service. While in the military he received a Bronze Star for his actions in Viet Nam as well as a Purple Heart. After retiring from the military, he built a successful business as a real estate broker in Colorado Springs, a city he fell in love with during his early military training at Fort Carson. Kenneth had a bold, adventurous spirit which took him far from his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa to South Korea, Viet Nam, Germany, Austria, France, England, Holland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Thailand. He loved his family and reveled in hosting family celebrations that often spanned five generations.
He is survived by his beloved wife – Mary; seven children and spouses: Annette (Joseph) Kunovic, Jerome Carter (Chris Martell), Alan Rice, Stephanie Smart, Harlan (Chris) Rice, Keith (Dawn) Carter, and Gary (Jamilla) Carter; twelve grandchildren and spouses, Kenneth Charles Smart, Maureen Smart, Janaya (Ben) Seo, Selena Smart, Chazel (Victoria) Carter, Treauna Carter, Justin Carter, Tyler Carter, Jaquelyn (Ricky) Buchanan, Anthony John (Melinda) Kunovic, and Taryn Rice; sixteen great-grandchildren and innumerable nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister Emma Jean Cavil, his six brothers: George, Clarence, Larry, Ronald, Phillip and Darryl; his daughter-in-law Tami Carter and granddaughter Amanda Carter.
Friends may call for visitation at Angelus Chapel, on Thursday, March 6th from 9:30 AM to 12:00 noon. The celebration of life service will be from 12:00 noon through 1:00 PM. The burial service will take place at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road at 2:00 PM. Flowers for the funeral should be delivered to the chapel on the morning of the 6th.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Memorial Hospital for their thoughtful care during Kenneth's last days.

Jerome, sending my deepest sympathy. Remember one star is shining for your father, (Kenneth) who will always be in your heart. As you continue your life remember he taught you to love and how to see beauty in the world he brought you. May your memories comfort you and know he is at peace. I Iknow it is hard to say goodbye to the one who loved you so well your entire life. Thinking of you and your family as you travel down this lonesome road. With love always my friend.

My condolences to the loving family of Mr Carter,

What A Guy, I was always honor to have a drink and a conversation with Carter, also with his son Kieth who would pop in club once in a while also.

I thought I was the smartest guy in the world till Carter reminded me, I wasn´t .

What Fun Conversations We Had.

RIP Carter,
