Kenneth Sween Obituary

Kenneth Herbert Sween, 87, of Colorado Springs passed away on August 30 at Cedarwood Health Care Center. Kenneth was born in Ottosen, Iowa on January 24, 1921 to Levi and Josephine (Gunderson) Sween. Kenneth attended St. Olaf College and The University of Iowa before becoming an insurance and securities salesperson for Lutheran Brotherhood. Before entering the insurance industry, Kenneth served as a pilot in the United States Air Force with the 3rd Air Force Unit, piloting the B-24 and the B-29. On September 18, 1943 he married Erma Rood in Bode, Iowa. They later had four children. Kenneth was a member of the American Legion Post 524, the Broadmoor Waltz Club, Sons of Norway and the Life Underwriters Association. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Erma of Colorado Springs; daughters, Anita (William) Stubblebine of Colorado Springs, Kathryn (Rodney) Hero of South Bend, Indiana, Susan (Bruce) Harmon of Monument, and Carol Callaway of Arvada ; one sister Lucille (Larry) Moe and one niece Laurie (Jim) DeHerrera. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Kipp (Elisa) Sanders, Dane (Michelle) Sanders, Todd (Debbie) Stubblebine, JoAnna (Darrell) Smith, Christopher and Jennifer Eden, Lindsay Hero, Carl (Nicole) Harmon, Scott Harmon, John and Sarah Callaway; as well as nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Peel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund located at 1515 North Cascade Avenue.
