Kit Eldridge Obituary

Kit Eldridge, age 56, a pillar of health and healthy lifestyle, died 16 months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He died peacefully at home in the arms of Audrey Eldridge, his best friend of 35 years, and wife for 25 of those years. Theirs was a truly rare and amazing relationship. Kit was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1969 and graduated from Harrison High school. It was there that he was introduced to woodworking and construction which would lead to a lifetime of building people's dreams. Whether it was a custom designed southwestern home, or a custom designed piece of furniture, he channeled his creativity from the love he had for people, and the joy he derived from seeing their eyes light up when he completed a project that was even better than what they had envisioned. Kit was a perfectionistic craftsman who could build and/or fix anything; he embraced challenges with determination, competence, and a boyish excitement. Kit was a member of Ute Lakes Fishing Club, and contributed greatly to making the club what it is today; he dearly loved the time he spent there fly-fishing and building beautiful custom cabins. When he wasn't building things, fly-fishing, playing his guitars, or finding ways to help others; he and Audrey could be found tending to the koi ponds in their beautiful garden or scuba diving in the Caribbean. Kit is survived by his soulmate/wife Audrey, many dear and close friends, daughter Julie Odell (Brendon), sisters Suzanne Gardner (Glen) and Shari Anton (Bob) as well as 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and recently by his beloved dog 'Taos.' We would like to thank the amazing treatment team at University Hospital, under the leadership of Dr. Wells Messersmith, MD. Ninety-four percent of pancreatic cancer patients die within 5 years, and seventy-four percent will die within one year. Please help support pancreatic cancer research at the University of Colorado. A celebration of Kit's life will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2012, 6:00pm, at Colorado Springs Shrine Club; 6 S. 33rd Street; Colorado Springs, CO 80904 (Old Colorado City).

From one of the "Other side of the tracks" folks who grew up with and knew Kit way before most of folks in town: We miss you and hope the fishing is grand where you are now. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Kit and I go back to the "renaissance" age of high school. He was a great friend and I will never forget his kindness. He helped me through many of my personal struggles. I will always have a special place in my heart for him, and Audrey my thoughts and prayers

You will find few individuals with the dedication to excellence and quality of work such as Kit Eldridge. A man among men.

Kit did his best to ensure that every single person who trusted him with their time, attention, or money was happy with their investment. If they were not, Kit would do everything within his power to do right by them without delay.

I am a better person for having had the opportunity to know, learn from and work with this genuinely good and hard working man.

Thank you Kit for everything you have brought to this world. Your gracious heart and beaming smile will forever be remembered.

It was my privilege to know Kit,to be able to see first hand some of the beautiful homes and spaces he created with his hands. I will remember how his eyes would light up as he told me about his next adventure with Audrey. He made friends easily with that radiant smile and countless acts of kindness.

His body has left us but I believe that his kind and loving spirit was showered on all of us and will live on through us.

May fair winds and calm sparkling seas carry you my friend on a timeless ship to a white beach shore where you will be greeted by everyone and everything you ever loved.

Kit always smiled and waved as he drove past my home on his way to Ute Lakes. I lost my husband a few years ago, and Kit always kept an eye out for my well being. If I was in the driveway or horse corrals, he would sometimes stop just to ask how I was doing. He was kind enough to help me bury a kitty I lost when I wasn't able to dig the hole. What a fine gentleman. I will miss seeing his white Ford pickup, his broad smile, and hearty wave. My thoughts are with you and your family, Audrey.

Audrey,
I wish that I had spent more time with Kit. To me, he will always seem a part of you. You seemed so in tune with each other. It was beautiful to see or hear about the two of you together.
Of course, I offer my condolences. Pancreatic cancer strikes out of the blue and with devastating consequences. Maybe someday we will vanquish it, but not in time for you and Kit.
You must cherish what you had together and miss it terribly.
I know that I can't say anything that you don't already know. Each of us faces our losses in our own way.
Just know that you are cared about and although I have been much in the background, I am here to step forward if summoned.
What can I say?
With love and caring,
Cynthia

You were one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of knowing, Kit. It was many years ago when you joined our family and several of us busted out the guitars and shared a tune or two. May God bless you and your wife and family. Peace be with you....

Dear Audrey
We are thinking of you at this time of great loss. We will always remember Kit for his amazing love for you as well as all of us jumping off dive boats and sharing our experiences together. I remember one time he had a bad ear and could not come out with us - when we arrived back at the dock, there he was holdig a fabulous lunch so you could eat and then go back out diving- this was Kit. He was a special, kind and generous man with a big heart. We will miss him and our Bonaire times together. We are sending you thoughts and prayers
