Kitty Bowman Obituary

Brigitte "Kitty" Bowman passed away on Sunday, April 18th in Colorado Springs. Her husband, Bob, died four years earlier. She lived on Drake Circle for 35 years, moved to Liberty Heights Retirement Community in 2005, and happily lived her last year downtown with her only daughter, Tamra, or as Kitty always caller her, Tammy. It was a wonderful last year. Kitty loved all animals and would have been a veterinarian had her plans not been interrupted by the Second World War. She grew up in Germany, and Bob was stationed there after the war. They met on a blind date and were later married in Berlin. In 1960 they moved back to the states and were stationed in Masachusetts, Alaska, Kansas, Florida (while Bob served in Viet Nam) and New Jersey till they retired to Colorado Springs, sight unseen, in 1970. They loved the city. Kitty liked gardening and all crafts. In the late 1960's she knitted three Alaskan sweaters for her family, and still wore hers proudly around Colorado Springs. She was active at the Hancock Senior Center's Wednesday knitting group, who will be receiving all her leftover yarn. She is horribly missed by all her friends, her daughter Tamra, her two grand-kitties Jezzie and Snick, and her grand-parrot Ruby. Kitty hated funerals, so there won't be one. Instead, her daughter plans to throw a celebratory dinner party in the future for those who knew and loved Kitty at the Edelweiss, her favorite restaurant, and the place where she and Bob celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary years ago. Kitty was 81.

I enjoyed getting to know Kitty and her husband Bob while they were living at Liberty Heights. She always had a smile on her face and kind words for the staff. As the Program Director I interviewed the Bowman's when they moved into LH and they had fun stories to tell.

When Tammy and my sister Sandi and I were all growing up together, we would sometimes stop by the Bowman's house. Kitty was always there with a ready smile, a snack and always showed genuine interest in what her daughter and friends were up to. I don't remember ever seeing a frown on Mrs. Bowman's face. Kitty, you will be deeply missed. In love and remembrance - the Barthel Sisters.
