L. Johnson Memoriam

Laura Aleta Johnson, 98, passed away in Colorado Springs on December 28, 2016 at a local hospital. "Aleta" was born on December 23, 1918 in Jay, Oklahoma to the late Herman and Alice (Turner) Priboth. She grew up on a farm in a small town, graduated from high school and attended college taking several secretarial courses.

During World War II, Aleta worked for Bowing Aircraft Company. She then worked in San Francisco for the United States Navy as a civil service secretary. During that time, she met her beloved husband, Anthony G. Johnson, who was serving in the United States Air Force and the two were married on March 7, 1953. Aleta switched from the Navy to working for aircraft maintenance and control for the Air Force. It was then that her personally kept card file rescued and recovered information on maintenance and repair after a company catastrophe. Aleta was very hardworking and was very proud to have received several awards and recognitions throughout the length of her career.

In her spare time, Aleta enjoyed writing poetry, mineralogy, needlework, dabbling in photography and spending time with her family and friends.

Aleta is survived by her husband of 63 years, Anthony; sister, Katie Quinn; nieces: Anita Harris, Gretchen and Erin Johnson as well as many other nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Shrine of Remembrance. Private entombment will follow at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.

Dear Aunt Aleta, I want you to know how proud I am to be your niece. You have always been so kind, thoughtful and loving. I'm glad for the time that I shared with you during my childhood, and wish that distance had not made visits so difficult these last many years. You will always be alive in my heart and memory. Love!

Aleta was an avid Rockies fan, and one of her poems to them was read at the opening of a game. It reflects good advice to us all: "They say it's all in the pitching. Each pitcher develops his own art, but he's not alone--there are eight more players on the field....Remember your fans are always with you." We are all Aleta's fans, and we know we can not do the pitching alone. We need each other. Linda and Pat Johnson
