July 17, 2021

Lana Wilson, 78, passed away Saturday, July 17th, peacefully in her sleep in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Lana was born October 14, 1942 in Austin, TX to Lemma and Morris Sassman. She is survived by her sister, Donna Kay Billy and her husband, Robert, and several nieces and nephews. She was a dear friend to many and also known as "Aunt Lana" to the younger generation. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Lana grew up in the Austin, Texas area and graduated from McCallum High School in 1960. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from Louisiana State University in New Orleans with a Bachelor of Arts in education. Lana had an adventurous spirit and loved trying new adventures. In 1986 and 1987, she was named as one of Austin's Best Dressed Woman" by the Women's Symphony League of Austin. Her love of life was contagious and she had a way of making everyone around her feel special. While Lana had lived most of her years in Austin, TX, she had recently relocated to Colorado Springs permanently, where she attended the First United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held on August 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at the First United Methodist Church on Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Settlement Home for Children, in Austin, TX where she served many years volunteering her time.

Lana and I were best friends while we attended LSU in New Orleans. Lana was not only a gifted college student but also very popular on campus and in historic New Orleans. On campus Lana started a wedding planning service for college students. In the community, especially the French Quarter, Lana was friends with some famous blues and jazz musicians. People like AL Hurt, Pete Fountain, Louie Armstrong! Because of Lana, my husband and I were invited to dinner and social parties in the homes of these celebrities. We remained good friends as we moved to other parts of the USA. Sadly we lost touch as we both were working in other states. Now, I so regret not reaching out to her as often as I might have done. She will always be my shining star and much loved friend. God bless you beautiful Lana! Jeanne Douglas
