Larry Armon Obituary

Larry G. Armon left this life on January 2, 2007, having fought a brave battle against multiple myeloma cancer and staph infection, resulting in sepsis. Larry was born on March 31, 1939, at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, to Theodore and Alma Inez (Parrack) Armon. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, June, their daughter, Andrea and her husband, Doug Stapp, their son, Caleb, of Lubbock TX; their son, Steven Scott Armon and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Katherina Leighton of Denver, Broc Leighton, Liam Armon from Garland TX. His two brothers, Lowell Armon of West Palm Beach FL, and Allen Armon and his wife, Ruth, of Virginia City NV also survive. He is also survived by two nephews, Keith and Brett Armon, and a great number of friends and former co-workers. Larry graduated from Wurzburg America High School and the University of Phoenix. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1961 and was stationed at Biloxi AFB, MS, Lincoln AFB, NE, and Lajes Field, Azore Islands. After being discharged from the Air Force, he was employed by Philco Ford at NASA, transferring to Colorado Springs in 1974. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 2002 after being a computer lab manager for several years. Larry was an avid bowler, and was active in several leagues around Colorado Springs. He would help anyone with their bowling problems anytime he was asked. He was fun-loving and loved to tell stories about experiences along his life path. He loved playing with his grandsons and chasing them all over the house when they visited. He was a loving and generous husband, father and friend. His abscence in our lives will leave a gaping hole in our hearts that will not soon heal. He will be sorely missed. A Memorial Service and Celebation of his Life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 5, at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs. If you wish to say a few words about your memories of Larry, please come prepared. In lieu of flowers, please support the charity of your choice.

June

I did not know you, but I had great times with Larry in Wurzburg, Germany playing football and other activities. He was a great Guy and I was very sorry to hear of his passing. I saw Lowell at our last gettogether, my first, and was deeply saddened by the news. I will truly miss him as will all the Wolves. May God bless you and comfort you.

We will all miss Larry. Savannah said after the service that she would have liked to have gotten up to tell everyone how much it meant to her for him, who hardly knew her, to drop what he was doing to come after her when she had her allergy attack, but she didn't because she was too nervous. I wish she had. What he did was just another story of his goodness.

I love you. Vonnie, Shan, & Savannah

Dear June,
Though I have only spoken to you and Larry on the phone, we have shared some great stories (mostly Larry's) over the past 3 years. In reference to how many wonderful people attended the services, I will simply employ an old 'adage' which Larry could have said about himself. "If you judge me by my friends and family, I must be a really nice guy." Isn't that the truth! Sincere condolences and please be well.

June
You and Larry have been a huge part of my life since I came to Colorado in 1978. You were always there for me during my troubled times. Larry and I have done so many things together, hunting, golfing an bowling. For 18 years we have been traveling all over these united states going to tournrments, and the trips we made to New Mexico to look for South Western art, Larry was not only one of the best friends anyone could have but he was the best story teller ever and I will miss him terribly. We wish you and your family well and make sure you keep in touch when you move to Texas.
Lots of Love Bob and Judee

Dear June,
I used to work with Larry back in the days of Ford Aerospace and he always had a way of making work fun. I can honestly say he was one of the most appreciative individuals I've ever met. He would always go out of his way to say "Thank You" with his big smile and a pat on the back.

Dear June & Family,
Everytime I see a yellow round circle with two dots (eyes) and a semicircle arc(mouth)my mind travels back to 1956 when I remember this youthful kid with glasses that was atheltic, bright, and one hell of a story teller. Larry played life like he did football and basketball with an abundance of energy and enthusiasm that litup whatever locker room he entered and I would imagine that heaven would be no exception. June and family, We were so sorry to hear about Larry's passing. We remember all of the fun we had at bowling (more fun at our dinners afterwards!) and that laugh of his when he gave Kalyn lemons to suck on right after her taste buds had kicked in when she was a baby. We had some fun times at work, too, but remember the bowling most often and fondly. Take care of yourselves and our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear June and Family, Larry was always the same, even in HS we looked up to the standard he set. We already miss him and cannot believe this has happened. The service you all put together was very special. We laughed and we cried. By the number of people who turned out to pay their respects, it was obvious that many felt as we did about Larry. June, there is always a place for you at our home-come see us. Phil and Jan

A blessed thing it is for any man or woman to have a friend, one human soul whom we can trust utterly; who knows the best and the worst of us, and who loves us in spite of our faults; who will speak the honest truth to us, while the world flatters us to our face, and laughs at us behind our back; who will give us counsel and reproof in the day of prosperity and self-conceit; but who, again, will comfort and encourage us in the day of difficulty and sorrow, when the world leaves us alone to fight our own battle as we can. --Kingsley

We knew Larry and June for 44 years and he was the best friend we have had. He will be missed dearly even as far away as we have been off and on over those years.

I will always remember your way of putting people at ease and making us feel important to you. I only hope you knew how important YOU were to us.

Your wit and humor would have made it a best seller.

I wish we could have had more time to spend with you and will forever be grateful for the time we had. You will never be forgotten.

Dear June and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Larry was a very special person. We had such good times over the years with the bowling league and other functions. He will be greatly missed. Just remember he is in a better place. Maybe Larry and Terry can get together and bowl or get a golf game going in the great beyond. I know Terry will be at the head of the line to greet him as he comes through the pearly gates, as he thought a lot of Larry.
I wish I could be with you at the memorial but I'm out of town. If you ever feel the need to talk to someone who can relate to the situation you find yourself in, please give me a call.
Love to you and yours,
Billie DeBerry

June, I will miss Larry also. I haven't seen him in many years; but I distinctly recall he, Lowell and me playing basketball at Columbus College after finishing high school in Germany. He was a great friend and athlete and possessed a sense of morality and humor that few others have. I enjoyed his company and his wit. I know that he is with the Lord now and will keep the angels smiling by his presence. God Bless you June - I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Larry was one of the nicest, most enjoyable people I worked with at Ford, Loral, and Lockheed-Martin. Especially on the REACT contract, where I understood the software, but not the hardware, Larry spent time helping me do my job well. He made working with him a pleasure. It's hard for me to think that I will not see him at our next luncheon. He was -- and still is -- a very special person. I will miss him.
