Larry Christensen Obituary

Larry Christensen, 68, of Westcliffe, CO died on July 19th, with his family by his side.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 23rd at 2:00 at the Wet Mountain Valley Saddle Club in Westcliffe.

He was born in Denver, CO to Daryl and Arloa Christensen. He went to college at Western State in Gunnison, CO. He did his student teaching in Weldona, CO where he met his wife Jean (Wilde). They married in 1973 and had four children while living in Colorado Springs. The family moved to Penrose in 1978. He started teaching and coaching at Harrison High School and later became a councilor at Stratton Meadows and Wildflower Elementaries. He loved Westcliffe and spent as much time there as he could throughout his early life and career. He had deep roots there as his great-great grandfather Daniel Hugg came over from Switzerland to homestead in the Wet Mountain Valley. When he retired he followed his dream and returned to Westcliffe. He was a high school football official for over 25 years and recently officiated a state championship game.

He loved baseball and passed the love on to his children. Larry and the boys traveled to many ballparks across the country. He loved golfing, fishing, rafting, dancing, Outward Bound and being with all of his different friends and family. He was a bright light in the world, anyone will tell you - he was the life of the party. He cherished his grandchildren and every moment that he got to spend with them. He brought happiness and laughter to everything he did and everywhere he went.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Daryl and Arloa Christensen. He is survived by his brother Ron Christensen,

sister Sandy Christensen, brother Rusty Christensen, son Walker Christensen, son Kip Christensen, son Casey Christensen, daughter Amanda (Christensen) Tucker, grandchild Flynn Christensen, grandchild Lauryn Christensen, grandchild Jax Tucker, and many nieces and nephews.

In Lieu of flowers please make donations to the Sangre De Cristo Hospice, 601 Greenwood Ave, Canon City, CO 81212.

Larry was a good friend to my family (the Starr's and Eaton's). We enjoyed the time we were able to spend with him and his family. Even though we did not see him often, every time we did, nothing ever changed. He was so fun and loving, we treasure having known him.
God bless you and may your memories always be with you. Larry will be missed by so many.

With love and fond memories,
Deena (Starr) Eaton & Family
