Larry Martinez Obituary

Larry Martinez, 43, of Colorado Springs, passed away on December 19, 2010. Larry was born on December 8, 1967 in Embudo, NM. He graduated from Harrison High School in 1986 and attended Colorado Technical University. Larry was a pioneer and an expert engineer in the optical storage world. Larry was a kind, caring man, who loved his children very much. He was a father that was firm but loving, whether it was taking his daughter to soccer games or just recently having a celebration party for his son who is joining the Armed Services. He was in every way a true father figure, always putting his children first. He was an extremely dedicated and hard working man, who always cared for others. If you were considered a friend of Larry's it was not taken lightly by those who knew him. Larry was a very intelligent, hard working, honest and incredible person who would do most anything for anyone. He was a man that loved hunting, camping, fishing and anything involving the outdoors. Larry is survived by his parents, Frank and Virginia; son, Anthony Michael Martinez; daughter, Janelle Arleta Martinez; sisters, Cindy Espinoza (Mike) and Francis Maine (Jack). Larry is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin (Tammy.) Larry will be sorely missed by his family and multitude of friends. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Evergreen Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. I think the last time I seen Larry was our Ten year reunion and before that was graduation. Although we weren't great friends we were still friends. I do know he had a good heart and was loved by many. God bless his family for the loss of two sons. They'll wake tomorrow for their first Christmas celebration together in heaven.

I was truly saddened to hear of Larry's passing. He was a customer where I used to work and always had a smile on his face and the most gentle nature. I had the honor to sit and talk with him on several occasions and treasure the memories. He loved his children very much and always had great pride and when relating stories involving them, he glowed. Larry will be missed greatly. Rest well.

Oh compadre what can we say... You are going to be missed so much. Michael and I have alot of memories when you lived in Denver.I can't write them all down. We felt especially close to you... I think about how important you were in our life. I remember when you and Barbara had Anthony. You were so proud of your son. And then you asked us to baptist your son we were so excited. This is definitely a sad time. I have known Larry since the 7th grade at Gorman Jr. High though Harrison high. Last time I seen him was at the 10 year reunion. We had a blast! With us all growing up, with it being our busy lives or across the miles, we lose touch with one another, but we are all family for life. I will remember his contagious smile and laugh. Such a gentle sole. I feel honored to have had him in my life and in my memories. Larry will be missed terriably, but in our hearts forever. ?

Larry was my friend. He became my best friend...as I could talk to him about ANYTHING. He taught me everything that I know about the optical storage business. He saw my potential when I needed a job and convinced the powers that be, that I was worth the investment. And he held true to that investment. After extensive training, which involved unbelievable patience on his part, he continued to train me when I was in remote locations working on sophisticated equipment. Many times, I thought of just throwing in the towel, but Larry would not hear of it. He pushed me, encouraged me, and kicked me in the butt when I needed it. The single most important thing about Larry is, that I NEVER felt alone... even if it was 4:00 AM and I was working in the field and encountered a problem that I couldn't figure out by myself, I could call him and he would navigate. He was the most nurturing person I've ever had the privilege to work for...for that matter, ever known. I spent many an evening talking with Larry either on the phone or in person, through some of the most trialing times in both of our lives. Larry was ALWAYS there. He, Anthony and Janelle took care of my dogs Cosmo and Kramer as if they were their own when I was out of town. They always started wagging their tails when they knew we were getting close to his home because they knew that love was coming. Interestingly, they were reluctant to leave when I came to pick them up a few days later. Hmmmm, bad dad,(me). I could always depend on him and I will sorely miss him the rest of the days of my life.

With total love and respect for you Larry, and best wishes and hopes for Anthony and Janelle I salute you sir.

Rest in peace, my friend Larry. You deserve it.

Kelly
