Larry R. Kuhns Obituary

After graduating from high school, Larry R. Kuhns Jr. drove a tractor-trailer for a while before joining the Army Reserve and becoming a heavy equipment operator. "He liked it so much, he signed on full time. He was patriotic and adventurous," said his father, Larry Sr. Kuhns, 24, of Austintown, Ohio, was killed June 13 in a grenade attack in Ramadi, Iraq. He was based at Fort Carson. He is survived by his wife, Courtney, and his 1-year-old daughter, McKenzie. "That little girl was his pride and joy," his father said. A sports lover and outdoorsman, Kuhns had worked at an Army recruiting office. He wanted to make the Army his career. "I last talked to him around Christmas, when he had shrapnel in a shoulder, but he was still for the war," his father said.

"For Sgt Larry R Kuhns and Spc. Anthony D. Kinslow - United States Army

A POEM FOR YOU

A poem for Larry and Anthony
A poem I could not find especially for you
So I write one myself
Just for the two of you

Your bravery was for us
You stood so true
Our lives are safe because of you

A soldier's courage is what you gave
Freedom is ours, because of you
We will always remember your faces and names
Because of your courage we lay this claim

We pray, we laugh, we sing, and we cry
Our memories of you, is what we cherish
We will always remember you

A miracle is what we pray for
A double one at that
For what we ask for we can receive
That is what Jesus Christ said
So we believe

Reach for us with open arms
We will fill them with our hearts and souls
For now, we have you in our memories
Until we all come home

Written by Your Adopted family member in 2006. Just for you.

Coming up on eleven years. I still say, "the world lost a true angel". Wish 9/11 had never occurred. But it did. Many lives lost, many families without loved ones. Sgt. Kuhns included. Your adopted family will always remember you also.

Yesterday was the day we should remember our fallen and their families. However every day is Memorial Day for me. I think about my brother everyday and I can not express how much I wish he was still here with me. To guide me through life, to protect me, and to tease me like he done my whole life. He was my other half being so close in age and we were always together. He saw me thru my worse days and my best days. I'm so proud of him and I know he chose the army life because he full heartedly believed in protecting our freedoms. In one of his post cards home he quoted "While people sleep peacefully in their beds brave men fight viciously on their behave" I love you Larry! I will honor you for the rest of my life. SGT. Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Kuhns Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

In Memory of Larry ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Larry, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

What can I say or do to take away the pain, nothing, so I will not pretend that I know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

"The last time I saw Larry, he was home between assignments in Iraq, and a big group of us all went out. I remember how proud he was of his service, how much he loved being in the army and serving his country. I remember how much fun we all had that night, and seeing him laughing and just being good 'ol Larry. That's how I will always remember Larry, my cousin, my friend- a great guy with a great smile and a beautiful heart. When I think of him, I think of him as he was that night- happy, smiling, laughing. Larry, your family and friends will never forget and we are all forever in gratitude to you for not only your service, but also for the love and light we all got to experience whenever you were around. Forever loved, forever remembered, forever in our hearts, may God bless you, Larry, our hero."

Sgt.Larry Kuhns was my brother, and i cant tell everyone how much i miss him.For some reason lately i feel i miss him more than i have all year. I think that is because it has finally hit him that he isnt coming home. I was pregnant when larry came home in Jan. 05 and i just wish he could have had a chance to meet my son. He would have been the best uncle a baby could ask for. I dont think this will every really feel real, but the only thing that gets me through is i know someday, i will see him again! He honstly was the best brother a girl could ask for. Always protected of me and wanted the best for me. I would love to talk to anyone who served in the army with him or any friends of his.

I served with Sgt. Larry, kuhns in the same platoon in Ramadi,Iraq. It was hard for me to deal with the loss. He was like a brother to me. My greatest regret is that his daughter will never get to know how womnderful her father was. I miss him so much. Many nights i have thought about Larry and cried. But I know that Larry wouldn't want me to shed a tear for him. So i stand hear trying to be strong, because thats what he would have wanted. My deepest sorrow goes out to his family. To anyone who reads this i hope that you will be blessed in life to have a friend like Sgt. Larry, Kuhns. Till we meet again Kuhns. I will hold you in a special place in my heart.

God bless Sgt. Larry Kuhns,Jr. We knew him as an adopted Soldier through Adoptaplatoon. In the eight months that we sent letters and packages, he would not ask for one thing. He just mentioned he liked Copenhagan longcut and tootsie rolls. But, he would not ask for anything. He gave us our freedom and security. We will miss him. God be with Courtney and MacKensie, and Larry's family. We mourn for you. God Bless.

My deepest sympathy to Courtney, Mackenzie and family.

Larry was a true American Hero. He originally served with the Army Reserve and deployed with his engineer unit to Iraq. Upon his return he joined active duty as a 13F, forward observer, as he wanted a more direct role. I was there as his recruiter when he joined and he could not have been prouder to serve his country. I will never forget Larry as we formed a close bond, as soldiers and friends. He had the biggest heart, the greatest sense of humor but was ultimately dedicated to what he believed in, serving his country.

You will not be forgotten.
