Laura Grovenburg Obituary

Laura Nell Gish Grovenburg, beloved wife and mother, left this mortal life on Sunday April 10, 2005, rejoining her two youngest sons Wayne and Douglas; her dear parents, Aaron and Gertrude Gish, and all her siblings in the eternal heavens. She leaves behind a loving extended family and many treasured friends who already miss her greatly. She is survived by her husband Wm. W. Grovenburg of Colorado Springs; son, Wm. G. Grovenburg, his wife, Betsy and their children: Laura J. Grovenburg and Wm. M. Grovenburg of Monument;  the children of son; Wayne: J. Todd Grovenburg with his wife, Julia of Ft. Smith Ark.; and Natalie N. and her husband, Mark Bateman of Ft. Smith. Mrs. Grovenburg was born and raised near Central City, Kentucky. In 1942 she met a handsome young paratrooper from the 101st Airborne Division. He gained permission to visit her at home, was quickly smitten, and gave her a diamond engagement ring with the understanding that if she still felt kindly towards him after the war, they would marry. She did, and they did, on September 30, 1945. They first  lived in Norman OK, where he earned his BSEE in Petroleum Engineering at Oklahoma University, and later lived in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming and Nevada, where he oversaw many significant oil drilling projects. About 11 years ago they retired and moved to Colorado Springs to be close to their eldest son and family. The grandchildren have enjoyed having their precious grandparents here, sharing with them many happy pursuits, and reveling in the love that only grandparents can provide.  Visitation will be at the Evergreen Funeral Home, at the corner of Union and Fountain, on Friday, April 15th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Evergreen Funeral Home.
