Laurie Borden Obituary

Laurie Ann Borden, 38, died Wednesday, June 1 at Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care in Colorado Springs, Colorado of complications with anorexia nervosa. Until her disability, Laurie, a certified gemologist, was a jeweler with the Best Company. She was preceded in death by her father in 2001. Laurie was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado and attended Colorado Springs schools graduating from Wasson High School, and was a lifelong aviation enthusiast. She was a competitive tennis player and an active member of the Vista Grande Church of God. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Harold (Lura Elizabeth) Borden of Colorado Springs; her brother, Larkin (Lark) Borden, former Colorado Springs Sun managing editor and an editor-foreign correspondent with Gannett/USA TODAY in Washington, D.C; her sister, Mrs. Stan (Mary) Michaelis of Phoenix; three nieces, one nephew and extended family of friends, neighbors and caregivers during her long illness. A remembrance and memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Vista Grande Church of God, 4870 Flintridge Drive. A short reception will follow the service in Skinner Hall at the church. Private family interment of her ashes will be at Fairview Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
