Laurie C. Reilly Obituary

Laurie Reilly, beautiful wife of Jonathan, proud mother of Paige and friend to so many, passed away last Wed. at her Springs' home due to ALS. She leaves behind lasting and courageous memories.

Laurie had an infectiously disarming and affirming way with others that began when she was at Wasson HS, continued at UCCS, and matured during her jobs at Digital and Compaq. Laurie routinely chatted and laughed with nearly everyone, including waiters, cashiers, people at the next table, delivery boys, those she volunteered to help and those who seemed lost. Laurie wanted to make a connection even if it only lasted 30 seconds but in several cases it meant that she made another lifetime friend. She just couldn't get enough of good human beings. She kept every card that anybody ever sent her. That love was doubly true of her friends and squared when it came to her family.

Over a year ago when ALS first began to silence her, Laurie turned to writing and speaking through her IPad so that she could continue to converse with the many visitors to her bedroom, as well as email and "Facebook" the friends she loved so much. That was good enough until this last month when the disease that had taken away movement in her legs and feet finally robbed her from using her arms and hands.

Laurie was a beautiful soul but all souls must come to their end. Laurie's finally did when oxygen could no longer fill her lungs. Along with her friends, she will forever be missed by her wonderful father Vince Callahan; big "Bro" Greg; beloved sisters, Candy, Donna, and Mary; all their spouses, children and grandchildren; Jonathan and what she considered her greatest creation, her talented daughter, Paige. Laurie's death follows her mother Peggy's 18 months earlier.

If you so choose, you can honor Laurie's life by making a donation to: (1) an organization fighting ALS; (2) the First Congregational Church of C.S; or, (3) a local hospice. Her own was Gentiva, a very fine for profit hospice.

Services will be at 11:00 AM on Sat., Oct. 26, at the First Congregational Church in C.S.

Laurie always inspired me to live a better life. To be more kind, to be more compassionate, to reach out to others more - less bark and more tail wagging. The world is better for her having lived in it.

I grew up with Laurie in my life when Paige and I were inseperable at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High. She was always the best mom and welcomed everyone in her home. I was so heartbroken to recently learn of her ALS and so suddenly after my discovery she passed. I know the pain of losing a mother and a bright light in others lives, so I know the effect of her loss will be great. Love you Paige & I will be there this weekend!
