Lawrence Hauptly Obituary

November 12, 1932 - January 4, 2009
Lawrence C. Hauptly, 76, passed away on January 4, 2009. He was born November 12, 1932, in Pottsville, PA to Helen (Freeze) Hauptly and Lawrence C. Hauptly. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and was a member of the Pottsville Catholic High School class of 1950. He married Mary (Bea) Hillman on January 19, 1952. Larry and Bea were blessed with seven children, and, after Bea's death, Larry married Anita Hellman and was blessed with another daughter, all of whom survive him. They are: Eileen Hauptly, Carol Grothe, Lawrence Hauptly, Diane Warner, Angel Beyer, Jean Livingston, Cheryl Hauptly, and Pamela Hauptly. He is also survived by his sons-in-law: Raymond Grothe, Jeffrey Beyer, Paris Livingston, and Rohit Mital, and his daughter-in-law, Evelyn Hauptly; eighteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Edward Hauptly, his sister, Sister Eileen Hauptly, several infant siblings, and his first wife, Mary B. Hauptly. After high school, Larry worked as a weigh master in a coal mine near Pottsville. He entered the construction trade when he moved to Colorado Springs in 1963, working on a number of notable local buildings. He later worked in property maintenance for Werner Enterprises before retiring in 1997. He had a wonderful sense of humor and remarkable skill for creating useful and beautiful things from scraps of wood and lumber. Larry's greatest joy came from spending time with his family and playing with his children and grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 8th from 4-7 pm at Swan-Law Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held Friday, January 9th at 10:00 a.m., Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Christian Charity of New Jersey, 350 Bernardsville Road, Mendham, NJ 07945, or Odyssey Hospice.
