Lawrence "Larry" John Hodgen was born on June 6, 1940 in Remsen, Iowa and passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loved ones on April 15, 2024.
Born the first of nine children to Martha and Glen Hodgen, Larry moved to Colorado Springs shortly after graduating high school. For the next 66 years, Larry made Colorado Springs his home—fathering two daughters, safely returning AdAmAn hikers from Pikes Peak every New Year's Eve for 50 years, installing floors for El Paso Floor Inc. for 40+ years, and contributing to countless college funds.
Larry's wit, charm, and humor will be missed.
He is survived by seven siblings; two daughters; four grandchildren; his great-grandson; and his "sweetie pie," Jo Thayer.
Larry loved telling stories, and if you would like to share one of your own about him or pay your respects, a memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27th, at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs starting at 11:00AM.

Larry, thanks for being the oldest of our family. After you graduated from High School our folks moved you to Colorado Springs for health reasons. We all missed you so much and once in awhile you wrote us letters. (Which your handwriting was a little difficult to decipher. LOL) We were so happy to hear from you! We still miss you but I know that you will be waiting for us when all of our families are united in God's Kingdom forever. Love, Mary

When I met Larry I was a slacker in my early 20´s with not much of a work ethic. Larry turned that around rather quickly & I´ve looked back numerous times he played a big part of the work ethic I have today. I´m proud to say I learned a lot from him in a short amount of time as well as toughened me up some as if you worked with Larry you better be tough. Not to mention I have a handful of 1 liners I´ll hold on to forever. This country would be in a much better condition with more of him. Rest in peace Mr Hodgen & thank you so much
