Lawrence Nelson Obituary

Lawrence R. Nelson, age 83, passed away July 19, 2009 in Colorado Springs. He was born August 30, 1925 in Dousman, Wisconsin to Oscar Joseph and Winifred Jesse (Chapman) Nelson. Larry served in the United States Army for 22 years and received numerous decorations. Following retirement, he worked as a finish carpenter. He enjoyed gardening, crafts, bowling, dancing, collecting commerative plates, and working on his computer. He also loved animals and his dogs. He was a member of VFW Post 4051 and DAV. Larry married Maria M. Hamburger on May 17, 1949 in Germany. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria “Ria�; two sons, Peter M. and Mark S.; daughter, Barbara A. (Mark) Good; brother, Oscar Keith; and two sisters, Janet Hermann and Frances Wohlwend. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Stacy Nelson, Celeste Nelson, Marsha Nelson, Stephany Nelson, Dalena Good, Christopher Good, and Kalynn Good and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Genevieve Palmquist; and daughter, Christine B. Nelson. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Grace & St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon. A luncheon reception will follow at the church. Private entombment will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance Chapel Mausoleum, Alcove of Truth. Memorial contributions may be made in Larry's memory to Grace & St. Stephens Episcopal Church or to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

I recall living next to you for years and watching the children grow up. The last time I visited with Lawrence was at a class at the Senior Cemter. I send my most sincere sympathy as I do know your loss.
