Leah Bollinger Obituary

After a 6 year battle with ovarian cancer, Leah Bollinger has gone home to be with her Lord. Leah Rae Bollinger died at home surrounded by her family and loved ones on September 26, 2010. She was 73 years old. Leah was born June 4, 1937 to Fred and Ilah Bare of Ravenswood, West Virginia. She was one of ten children. Leah was a loving and dedicated wife. She married the love of her life, Robert L. Bollinger on June 20, 1957 at the First United Presbyterian Church, in Ravenswood, West Virginia. Leah was an integral part of his life and his twenty-two year career in the United States Air Force. Her unfailing support and understanding made his contribution to our country much easier for him. Leah was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved having the family together for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. In addition to her own grandchildren, Leah had many other children who referred to her as "Grandma Leah". For many years she provided loving care for children of working parents in the Colorado Springs area. Many if not all of these children continued to stay in touch into their adult years. Leah was also devoted to her church family at Circle Drive Baptist Church. She had a special affection for the senior choir and the Tuesday morning women's bible study. Leah is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Bob Bollinger; their son Stephen and his wife Janna, of Leavenworth, WA; their daughter Kimberly of Peyton, CO; grandsons Ryan, Aaron, Brandon, Adam and Justin; sisters Janet and Evelyn and brothers Jim, Robert and Sarge. Leah was preceded in death by her son Gregory in 1979, then twelve years old; her parents, two sisters and two brothers. A viewing/visitation will be held from 5pm until 8pm on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at the Evergreen Funeral Home (1830 East Fountain Blvd in Colorado Springs). A Celebration of Life Service will held on Friday October 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Circle Dive Baptist Church (801 North Circle Drive in Colorado Springs) immediately followed by a short graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery (1005 N. Hancock Ave, Colorado Springs). All are welcome. Memorial contributions can be made to Circle Drive Baptist Church and/or the Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Dear Bob, Kim, Stephen, and all of Leah's family: Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your wife and mother. I just got back in town and was catching up on several newspapers when I saw the notice. I was so sorry to learn of her passing. Leah was a guiding force in many children's lives including my own son, Nathan, who she cared for from about 13 months old until first grade. From the first day I took him to your house, there was an immediate bond (and Nathan thought it was neat they shared a birthday). I couldn't have found anyone better to "help raise" my child. She was special and will be missed by many. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

So sorry we couldn't be there for Leah's service. We are in Florida visiting our grandkids. She was a very neat lady. We loved having her watch Ragan while we worked years ago.
