Ledell Reynolds Obituary

Ledell Reynolds, fondly known as "Pete" by many of his friends and patrons at his Barbershop, was born August 31, 1928 Pittsburg, Texas.

Ledell recognized early on the importance of having Jesus Christ in his life and accepted the Lord while a young man in Pittsburg. Realizing there were limited career opportunities for Blacks at the time, Ledell left Pittsburg to study barbering at the Tyler Barber School run by H. M. Morgan. After receiving his training he made the bold decision in 1953 to relocate to Colorado Springs and pursue his vocation as a barber. His first job was working for the late Mr. Arthur Price and later opening his own shop the NuLook Barber on West Colorado Avenue. Later he moved to the current 317 S. Hancock location, renaming the business the Barber Service Center. In 2012, it was estimated that he had cut more than half a million heads in Colorado Springs during the course of his 58 year career, literally wearing a hole in the floor where he faithfully stood influencing lives one head at a time.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Mary Lee; his children - Bernestine Downing, Billy Ray Reynolds (Dana), Bobby Gene Reynolds (Holly), Benjamin Ledell Reynolds (Bruce), Brett Reynolds (Tiwatha), Benita Reynolds, 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, 2 sisters and one brother; as well a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 6th from 4-7:00 pm at the Angelus Funeral Directors, 1104 S. Circle Drive, Colorado Springs. The funeral service will be at 11am Friday March 7th at the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 3615 Vickers Drive in Colorado Springs with Pastor Cleveland A. Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery.

Ledell, I always felt wonderfully blessed to have you as a big brother. You passed what you learned from our DAD on to the younger ones with so much love, understanding ,compassion, patience, STYLE, and JOY!!

I'll never forget the time I suffered the serious burn, when you were the only one who could, or would, rock the bed, (I was still using the baby bed) just the way I needed you to. The others would either rock it too hard or too soft, then walk away leaving me crying out for someone who had the patience to deal with a complex brat who was not at all easy to work with...that someone was YOU. You would VOLUNTEER to care for me, and this made me feel so much love!! The pain I felt was so excruciating, I actually thought I would die. This is when you taught me that LOVE is not enough...ONE needs CARE, and you knew how, and was willing to take care of me. Your Love and Light was so healing, appreciated, and still a strengthening force in my everyday living.

No one has ever worked harder to take care of his family than you. You did it with so much PLEASURE. You truly loved your SWEET WIFE and CHILDREN, and would give your life for them. You were the kind of man who GOD LOVES and smiled upon..so loyal and TRUE!!

I am so very grateful to you and Mary for giving me, my husband, and child, such a warm welcome to come live with you (from Texas) until my husband was employed and we were well on our feet. This is when I learned that you had chosen the right life partner, and that I had been blessed with a beautiful SISTER who had the same heart as you...so loving and easy to get alone with. A blood sister could never be any better!! What a sweet inheritance for me.

YOUR inheritance is the KINGDOM of GOD!! You will always be missed from earth, however, we all know that you are in a much better place and I am happy for you. because you're all right now. You're HOME AT LAST!! PRAISE GOD!!!!
WELL, I lost this part earlier, but I won't delete it I'm letting it fall where it may. It still rings true.
When the family went fishing, you would always look after me, while teaching me how to bate my hook, be safe around the water, and how to watch out for poisonous snakes. You made it so much fun, because you never failed to tell me funny stories and make funny faces. Going hunting with you, Dad, and my other brothers was a lot of fun as well.

He will truly be missed, but he leaves quite a fingerprint behind. Christopher told me the first time he felt like a "big kid" was when Mr. Reynolds no longer put that piece of wood across the barber's chair for him to sit on to get his hair cut. Receive God's comfort and that of those He sends to ease the sting of loss as much as possible. Much love to you all.
