Lee Wilkie Obituary

Wilkie, Lee H. - Age 88 - passed away quietly while surrounded by family in Colorado Springs on September 28, 2013. He was born February 22, 1925 to William Owen Wilkie and Hazel (Ricketts) Wilkie in Brush, Colorado.

After the sudden death of his father, Lee left school and moved to the Springs to support his mother and sister. Lee enlisted in the Navy and proudly served in the South Pacific during World War II. After an honorable discharge, he returned to the Springs and became an electrician. As a journeyman he worked at Berwick Electric for many years and was a member and strong supporter of the IBEW, Local 113, for over 60 years.

His family, friends, and co-workers will fondly remember him as a hard-working, resilient, and loving man. When not working, he spent much time fishing and hunting with loved ones and friends. His enduring optimism was embodied by his insistence on always including a fishing pole, just in case. In retirement he also found joy on the golf course with friends. He was an active member of the VFW, Post 4051 and member of the Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Lee was preceded in death by his loving wife, Loretta B. Wilkie, and is survived by his two sons Dan (Jean) and Steve (Mia) of Broomfield and Monument, CO, respectively. He is also survived by five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and step-son Kenny Wendt.

Family would like to thank the staff at Emeritus at Broadmoor for their loving care.

Services to be held 10:30 AM, Thurs. Oct. 3 at Memorial Gardens - 3825 Airport Rd., Colo. Sprgs. - reception to follow.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. My parents (Jim and Phyllis Kauffman) were good friend with Lee and Loretta. We spent a lot of time with them when we were growing up. Prayers and thoughts are with the family. Jeanette Kauffman Bartling
