Leland Osborn Obituary

There has been a long period of declining health during which Leland displayed an amazing attitude of peaceful acceptance and willingness to deal with the situation and continue functioning under the painful and stressful conditions which confronted him and as his body deteriorated. He did this in a way which has been an encouragement to anyone who came in contact with him. The reality of his faith in Jesus Christ was apparent. Finally, at 1:48 pm. Tuesday, December 12, in the presence of most of his family, Leland G. Osborn was promoted to Glory! Leland came to Colorado Springs with his parents Perry and Alta Osborn in 1931. They have preceded him in death. His older sister, Peggy Hoose lives in Indianapolis, ID. His younger sister, Charlotte Profit, lives in Lake Havasu, AZ. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1946 and last September was one of the organizers of his 65th class reunion. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1951. He was a plumber and pipe fitter and applied those skills for 54 years. During the later working years, Leland served eight years on the State Counsel for Prison Fellowship Ministries. Leland married Jane Goodbar, February 23, 1952. They had three children; Jim who lives in Monument, CO as does Jerry, and Nancy Furman who lives in Colorado Springs, CO. Leland and Freda Burnett were married in November 1968. Freda who is deceased, had three children; Rodney Masse, who is deceased, Rodger Masse, who lives in Colorado Springs, CO and Rita Peck who is living in Security, CO. Leland and Dorothy Marsh were married March 20, 1982 Dorothy has three children; Vicki Roberts who lives in Chicago, IL. Linda Wetzel who lives in Security, CO. and Jenea Marsh who lives in Colorado Springs, CO. There are twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. During Leland's working career, he served ten years on the Colorado Council for Apprenticeship in the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting trade, and originated this program for Colorado Springs. Soon after their marriage, Leland and Dorothy attended a conference at a retreat center near Buena Vista, CO. As they were returning to Colorado Springs, they were discussing the Conference and both came to the conclusion that they had never really made a decision to get serious about their faith. They had gone to Church but that was about it. At the Conference speakers had made reference to the need for people to recognize they all have a common problem which the Bible calls sin. This problem was solved by Christ's death on the cross, but this solution could only become a reality for an individual when that person intentionally placed their trust in Jesus Christ and accepted him into their life to be their Savior and forgive their sins. Leland and Dorothy had lots of questions, but they wanted to do what the speakers had suggested. So they pulled off the side of the road, and together they told God they were sorry for their sins and that they wanted Jesus to come into their hearts and forgive their sins and make them the kind of people He wanted them to be. That was the beginning of a new relationship together and with God himself. They joined a group who were studying the Bible and they began to learn the facts about the promises regarding life and death. It began to make sense that the creator of life would know how best to live it. And most of all, they learned they would spend Eternity together with Jesus. I met Leland years ago at Mel Goebel's house. What a servant he has been in his life. He was always full of life and expressed this as an awesome Volunteer.
Blessings to the family, He will be sorely missed.
Because of Christ,

What a beautiful Tribute! I have never read one so meaningful. It was always a joy for me to see Leland each Thursday at 55 Plus and Sundays at our Sunday School Class. Just hope he realized how much we love him and Dorothy. I will miss him!
