Linda Doty Obituary

Linda Alice Doty, 60, of Colorado Springs, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at her home.

Linda was a native of Boulder, but she was raised in northern California, where her family moved when she was 2. The family returned to Colorado several years later, and Linda attended Coronado High School and graduated from Manitou High School. She began college in Fort Collins, then transferred to the University of California at San Diego, where she earned a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in economics. Linda earned her master's degree in political science at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Linda lived on the west side of Colorado Springs for at least the last 20 years with her partner, Ron, and numerous beloved cats that they rescued over the years.

Linda was a wordsmith and stickler for grammar, and she began working for newspapers at the Ventura County Star. She also worked as a copy editor at The Gazette for 17 years, and most recently worked for HDR Engineering. Her hobbies were reading, billiards, and cats.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be a viewing tomorrow, Friday, at 1 p.m. at Chapel of Memories, 829 South Hancock Avenue. No service is planned.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Linda's great love for cats, please support Happy Cats Haven, 1412 South 21st Street, Colorado Springs, CO, 80904.

Linda was a fiercely unique woman. She was sharp and informed and passionately opinionated. She was a hawk for linguistics and grammar; she'd be able to walk you through the logic behind any edit she made (and she'd probably give me a lesson about that semicolon). She loved German industrial metal band Rammstein and talked so dearly about her cats. I'm so grateful for the time I had with Linda. We lost a beautiful soul.

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Linda's passing. I always enjoyed talking with her, about work, cats, or life in general. Her sense of humor was such a treat. It was easy to tell that she was a very caring person, one that I feel blessed just to have known.

There are so many things I admired about Linda. Her love of language, her unwavering commitment to get things right, her constant interest in learning, her willingness to teach others (even though she told me on multiple occasions that she didn't believe she was a good teacher), her laughter and wit, her compassion for others and animals. She will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to Linda's family. Linda was a great person and was a pleasure to work with. Her little jokes before going to lunch everyday made me laugh. Stacey
