Linnea Worner Obituary

Linnea Elinor Asplund Worner completed her journey to Heaven on November 14, 2022 at the age of 95! She was born in Bismarck, ND on July 28, 1927 to Otto Conrad Asplund and Karley Ogat Eriksen Asplund. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her brother Otto Warren Asplund; and her beloved husband George John Worner.
Linnea graduated from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa in 1950, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences. This was a moment of great pride for her! The summer before she graduated, she met her future husband. They "met" at a summer camp when George saw Linnea, told his friend "that's the girl I'm going to marry", and proceeded to push her into the pool to get her attention! And the love story began, spanning 62 years... and beyond!
Linnea was brought up in a Christian home, so it was a perfect, smooth transition when she married George, a seminary student, in 1951. From 1955-1966 as an EUB pastor's wife in Illinois and North Dakota to 1966-1985 as an Air Force Chaplain's wife, she supported her husband and raised their 5 children. Seemingly without effort, she was able to transform each new residence (which were many!) into a home filled with love and the ever-present aromas of pies/cookies, chicken soup, roast in the oven... to greet her family when they came home from work/school. She was the constant in her family's ever-changing lives.
Linnea inherited the "travel/adventure bug" from her mother. Moving all around North Dakota didn't quite do the trick in satisfying the bug, so when George reenlisted into the Air Force, Linnea was finally able to really broaden her world. McClellanAFB California, EllsworthAFB South Dakota, HickamAFB Hawaii, EglinAFB Florida, EdwardsAFB California, ClarkAFB Phillipines, eventually retiring in San Antonio, Texas. In 1991 Linnea and George made their final retirement home in Colorado Springs, close to family and friends. They often called this "God's Country".
While stationed in Hawaii, Linnea learned the art of quilting. This became her signature art style; family and friends all benefiting from her amazingly intricate creations. She was very proud of her "re-figured" index finger from decades of quilting!
Throughout their retirement years together, they traveled to Japan, The Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Sweden, France, England; as well as all over the United States.
Linnea enjoyed the outdoors. She loved to stay healthy and active; swimming, taking walks, gardening, and golfing. Later she would continue her workouts with Curves and Water Aerobics.
When asked if she felt her life has had meaning and purpose, she replied, "Yes, of course! If you're a mother you definitely have meaning". She considered her most important accomplishments as being a loving wife, a good friend, and a mother to 5 beautiful children. She was very proud of these roles.
Linnea is survived by her sister June Asplund Marty (Wayne); her 5 children; LeAnne Karla Worner Miller (Bob), Sheila Rose Worner Matthew (Doug), Christine Emilie Worner Eldridge (Sam), Rebecca Sue Worner Lussier, and Elroy George Worner (Carmela); her 9 grandchildren: Christy Miller Estoll, Matthew Miller (Rachel), Aaron Matthew (Laurel), Emilie Eldridge Gould (Austin), Heather Matthew, Joy Eldridge Farr (Mike), Jennifer Lussier Steffenhagen (Rick), David Eldridge, and Lisa Lussier Robeson (Jim); and 18+ great-grandchildren!; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
Linnea's faith was a constant throughout her life. She gave thanks daily for her life here on earth. Shortly before her journey home, she let us know she was ready and wanted to be with Jesus, George, and her parents in Heaven.
Linnea will be greatly missed by her family, loved ones, and all who knew her!
A memorial gathering to celebrate Linnea's life and legacy will be announced at a later date.

I have attached some of my favorite pictures of Mom, and some of Dad with her. She and Dad are forever young now, and he is once again by her side. Her sight is restored and her memory is perfect. Before Dad went on ahead of her to heaven, it was always Mom & Dad when we spoke. For 9 years Mom was here with us without Dad by her side. We knew she was missing her other half, every moment of every day. Now we can once again say Mom & Dad, as they are together again, forever! My heart is singing and crying at the same time.
