Lloyd Kordick Obituary

Lloyd Charles Kordick of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed after bravely battling cancer, on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Lloyd was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Florence (Harberts) and Lloyd Kordick, Sr., on June 27, 1949. As a child, Lloyd lived with his aunt, Ida, and uncle, Donald Ayotte, for some years in Colorado Springs.

Lloyd has a sister in Florida, Jody (husband Tom); a sister in Texas, Linda (husband Gary); brother-in-law, Dan (Kimberly) in Indiana; sister-in-law, Patricia in Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. Lloyd and his wife, Shirley, have a blended family of six children. Lloyd has three daughters: Carmen, Alexandra (mother Nidia), Rebecca; three stepchildren: Patrick (wife Paulette), Elizabeth (husband Gregory), and Kellie (husband Floyd); and five grandchildren: Elijah, Noah, Kristen, Sophie, and Flynn. The grandchildren were especially fond of "Papa" and his humor, but the love was genuinely returned back to them, as he appreciated the sense of family, and it became even more important to him when he became ill.

Lloyd was educationally oriented, an avid reader, had a special interest in history and was well traveled. He was extremely proud of his daughters, who all attained college degrees of high distinction.

Lloyd graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines, Iowa (1967). He attended Creighton University for his undergraduate degree (1970), and the University of Missouri for his law degree (1972). Lloyd had practiced law in Colorado since 1973, and had a strong sense of social justice. His main focus of expertise was in personal injury and insurance bad faith litigations, and was highly respected among his peers. He was a true trial lawyer, working very hard for his clients, providing dignity and guidance on their behalf. He was a member of the El Paso County Bar Association, the National Lawyer Guild, and was admitted to practice law in Colorado, Iowa, and Illinois. His presence will be sorely missed in the legal community.

We want to thank our wonderful friends, and our loving, strong family members, for the compassion and support that has been shown to us during these difficult times. And a special recognition goes to our caregivers (Danny, Ken, James, Veronica, and Pikes Peak Hospice), who were so very helpful and devoted to all of our needs.

We will miss our husband, father, brother, friend...and that contagious laugh!

Cremation will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday February 6, 2015 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel, with a reception following, for those who wish to attend.

I will miss Lloyd's enthusiastic support for injured claimants, sharp and unique sense of humor, and our developing discussion about Jesuit education and Pope Francis.

There are not many lawyers like Lloyd. He saw his job as not only a way of making a living, but to make the World just a little bit more just for those who suffer from the random unfair events in life.
A good guy.
