Lloyd Trent Obituary

February 15, 1929 - January 8, 2009 Lloyd Q. "Opa" Trent, Sr. passed away peacefully at his granddaughter's home in Widefield, CO on January 8, 2009. Lloyd was born on February 15, 1929 in Elwood, Texas to the late William and Ruby Trent. Lloyd joined the U. S. Army in 1947. While stationed in Germany, he met Erika Graf. They were married December 7, 1955 in Hanau, Germany. They started a family and came to the United States in 1958. They were married for 45 years when Erika passed away in April 2000. Once his army career ended, he worked for the City of Colorado Springs on the Pikes Peak Highway for another 20 years, retiring in 1992. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erika; son, William "Billy", and three sisters. He is survived by two sons, Frank Trent (Donna) of Bonham, Texas and Lloyd Trent, Jr. of Colorado Springs; two daughters, Helga Orth (Bob) and Pat Rohrick (Doug) both of Colorado Springs; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. His ashes will be interred next to his wife, Erika, in Elwood Cemetery in Texas at a later date. Please sign the guestbook at gazette.com/legacy.com

"Quincy" worked on Pikes Peak with my dad, Tom Gayler, for as long as I can remember. I use to go to work with my dad all the time and always looked forward to whatever ornery thing Trent had to say to me. As a teenager, I worked on the summit of Pikes Peak as a waitress. He would always remind me that "I use to change your diapers!" whenever he needed me to get him a cup of coffee and a donut. There is definetely alot of history between him and my dad. ALOT of great memories and some not-so-great ones. Just know that "Opa" touched many lives in this world. We were all very lucky to know him.

Dad, If it were not for you I would be speaking German now. You made a choice to adopt me and give me your name. For that I will always be greatful. I have hated you and I have loved you, but to me you will always be DAD.

Mr. Trent,
Jeff and I are going to miss you and all of the jokes you had to share, especially the "daddy barrel" joke. We will be forever thankful for you sharing Mandy or as you called her Mindy with us. She never forgot you when you came to visit. Now you are with Mrs. Trent and I know how much you missed her. We will see you again one day. Love you, Heidi and Jeff.

I'm sorry I wasn't there to say goodbye, but I'm glad I got to talk to you so soon before you left. Thank you for everything Opa. I'll never forget all that you have done for me and my sisters. If it wasn't for you and Oma all those years ago we could have grown up miles apart and never known each other. Some of my best memories are of working on cars with you and driving to Texas for those summer vacations. I know you are finally free from the pain and suffering of this world and are finally reunited with your Erika. Goodbye Opa I love you so much and will never forget all that you gave to me.

Michelle, I hope that you and your family find comfort in eachother as you grieve the loss of "Opa". I'll always remember his coined term "stud duck". The first time I heard him say that, I laughed so hard. It quick became a term of endearment for Bart. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. ~Allisyn
