Lois Kaiser Obituary

Kaiser
Lois E. Cutter Kaiser
August 4, 1928
November 14, 2024

Lois Elaine (Cutter) Kaiser passed into heaven from Colorado Springs on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
Lois was born on August 4, 1928, and grew up in Cranford, New Jersey. She grew up between two world wars and was a small child during the Great Depression. She studied nursing and received her RN from Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing in Plainfield, New Jersey, graduating first in her class. She married Frederick D. Cutter and traveled with him to San Diego, where he was stationed in the Navy. They began their family there. Upon discharge they traveled back to New Jersey, and the family grew and grew.
In 1963 the family, now including five children ages 0- 10, moved west to Pinedale, Wyoming. Here the nurse from small-town New Jersey learned to run a sporting goods store, drive a school bus and shoot a moose! She also learned to love the outdoors and the mountains. From then on she loved to have a view of mountains outside her window.
In 1966 the family relocated to Colorado, residing first in Chipeta Park and later in Manitou Springs. During this time Lois worked as THE school nurse for the Manitou Springs school district, a flagger on a road crew, a floral delivery driver, and Mrs. Claus at the Citadel Mall. Always an adventurer and never afraid of work, she was an accomplished seamstress, sewing kids' clothes, prom dresses, draperies, quilts, down jackets and whatever else anyone needed. She crocheted afghans, caned chairs, and flipped a house. In one last stint of nursing, Lois worked at the Garden of the Gods Nursing Home and enjoyed showing off her grandchildren to the residents on holidays. She and Fred were active members of First Presbyterian Church.
Lois and Fred enjoyed travelling in their motorhome, hosting in campgrounds and working on staff at various National Parks and Monuments. On one of these trips they visited New Jersey friends now living in Sun City, Arizona. During this visit they bought a house in Sun City and relocated once again. Lois and Fred enjoyed ushering at games and concerts at the Glendale Arena (now State Farm Stadium), and Lois again put her nursing background to use as a volunteer at Banner Boswell Medical Center.
In 2009, Fred passed away. A year later, Lois became reacquainted with her high school sweetheart, George Kaiser, MD, of Webster Groves, MO, recently widowed himself. They married and enjoyed ten fun years together until George also passed away and Lois came back to Colorado Springs in 2020. At that time she joined Village Seven Presbyterian Church.
While living in an independent senior community, Lois started a knitting group to provide hats and blankets to newborns in a local hospital. Always involved in community activities, she was frequently featured in the community's publicity photos. She was also enrolled in and committed to a Memory and Aging study for 25 years to assist research in understanding the aging journey.
Lois was predeceased by her husbands Frederick Cutter and George Kaiser, son-in-law James Andrews, and grandsons Ryan Maynard and Benjamin Cutter. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Stirling, of Venice, FL; her five children Steven Cutter (Beth), Leslie Stejskal (Randy), Christine Maynard (Joel) and Gregory Cutter (Beth Brooks) all of Colorado Springs, and Jeffrey Cutter (Susie) of Electric City, Washington; as well as 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family ceremony will be held at a future date.
