Lois Walker Obituary

Lois Bryan Seay Walker, 92, of Reynolds passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Peach Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Seay-Walker was lovingly called Mama Lois by her grandchildren, family and friends. Mama Lois was born on Sunday, October 26, 1919 in Saluda, SC to Boyce and Leeze Bryan. She was a resident of Reynolds, GA for the past 8 years. Previous to that she had lived in Marshallville and Fort Valley, GA where she raised her family. Mama Lois was instrumental in the development of a school for children with special needs which eventually became the school known as T.D. Tinsley. In 1962 she organized and became the first president of the Peach Belt Medical Auxiliary. She was an active Girl Scout Leader and camp nurse for a number of years in Marshallville. Mama Lois was active in the Camellia Society. She often shared her arranging talents with the First Baptist Church of Marshallville and Fort Valley. Mama Lois was an avid china painter in her later years. She was a proud 50 year breast cancer survivor. Other organizations which she was a member of were the Junior League of Macon, the Marshallville Garden Club, the Magnolia Garden Club of Fort Valley, the 39's of Fort Valley, the Fort Valley Women's Club. During the mid-1950's, Mama Lois lobbied the Georgia School Board and appeared before the Georgia Senate to allow special needs children access to the public school education. She was successful in having her eldest son be one of the first mainstreamed children in Georgia. Mama Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. E. Faxton Seay; a son, Jimmy Seay; great-grandson, Jackson Dent; twin sister, Leeze Harbuck; brother, Willie Bryan; sisters, Bernice Carswell and Anna Cromer and also Oscar Walker.
Mama Lois is survived by Martha Seay, Erick and Lynn Seay, Frances and Bobby Bell; grandchildren: Jody (Cheryl) Mullis, Jimmy (Pam) Mullis, Mike (Jamie) Mullis, Natalie (Brad) Dent, Jennifer (Glenn) Wilder, Michelle (Jeff) Evans; Christy (David) Bullard and ten great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or email [email protected] or to an organization of your choice.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 2 pm at Reynolds United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fort Valley. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour at the church.
