Lola Houghton Obituary

IN LOVING MEMORY

Lola Jean Houghton was called back to Heaven on July 18, 2017, after battling several medical conditions since May of 2016.

Lola was born on the Waterloo Farm in Williams County, North Dakota, to Kermit and Geneva Smith. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse until eighth grade, when she moved to an apartment with her older sister, Del Vera, in order to attend high school in Williston.

After graduating from high school, Lola became a secretary for Amerada-Hess Petroleum Corporation. She worked for a team of geologists, with whom she developed lifelong relationships.

Lola married Robert Houghton August 23, 1958. They had four children; Meredith, Eugene, Bradley, and Joel. They moved from Williston to Colorado Springs in December 1966. Lola became a homemaker who dedicated herself to raising her four children. She volunteered at the elementary school, and was often seen at Valley Swim Club taking the kids for swim lessons, or volunteering to help at Swim Club activities. Lola was involved with her children's sports activities, and later took pride in attending her grandchildrens' athletic events. She enjoyed outings with her friends and grand-daughters, going to lunch with "the ladies" from the beauty shop, and especially attending church and singing praises to the Lord.

Lola was kind and thoughtful, generous, honest, and would surprise you with a funny side that always made people laugh. Her biggest passion was her family and friends, and making sure that their needs were taken care of first, even over her own.

Lola is survived by her husband, Bob; her sister, Karen Short; her daughter, Meredith (Mike), her sons, Eugene, Bradley (Kim), and Joel(Crystal); nine grandchildren; Kirsten, Karena, Jamieson (Samantha), Trentton, Karissa (Alex), Addison, Allison, Myranda, and Dalton, four great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, and many nieces and nephews.

Lola is preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Geneva, and her sister Del Vera Peterson.

Lola was a loving mother and grandmother, who in turn, was loved by all. She will be missed and will forever be in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lola's name to The Church on the Ranch, 3685 Jeannine Drive, Colorado Springs, CO. 80917. Memorial service date to be determined by family.
