Lola Nolan Obituary

Lola Gladys Nolan, beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on June 30, 2014, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born in Cement, Oklahoma on January 2, 1918, she was the third of fourteen children born to the late James and Gracie Kenner.

Gladys graduated from Huerfano County High School in 1936, and moved to Colorado Springs in 1973. Graduating from Blair Business College, she worked as a waitress at the Indian Grill Restaurant, where she met her future husband, Louie Nolan. They were married February 23, 1939.

She enjoyed waitressing for many years at the Village Inn Restaurant, Ruth's Oven, Garden of the God's Club, and the Kissing Camels Golf Club.

Gladys was very active in PTA, Brownie Scouts, 4-H, the Colorado Spring's Women's Club, and Bible Study Fellowship. As a charter member of the Merry Matrons Home Extension Club she remained an active member for 50 years.

Gladys was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs.

Her family and friends were most important in her life.

Gladys was a wonderful seamstress and quilter. She enjoyed various crafts, gardening, journaling, and bible study.

Following her retirement she and Louie spent many hours working in the yard, fishing, and traveling the United States. Louie preceded her in death in 1999, after 60 years of marriage.

Gladys leaves behind to cherish her memory; loving children, Ellena (Paul) Gustafson, Colorado Springs and Chuck Nolan, Phoenix, Arizona; 2 brothers, Homer Kenner, Skull Lake, Nebraska, Ralph Kenner, Spokane, Washington; 2 sisters, Irene Gee, Rocky Ford, Colorado, and Leora Bowdino, Santa Fe, New Mexico; precious grandsons, Larry Hicks, Denver, Colorado, Rodney Hicks, Mainville, Ohio, as well as wonderful nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place Sunday, July 6, 2014, from 2-4pm at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Ave.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Monday, July 7, 2014, 10:30 am at Swan- Law Cascade Chapel. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Colorado Springs following the service.

Ellena and Chuck, I just now found out about the passing of your Mother. She was a wonderful lady and fun to be around. I remember so many fun times at her house when we were teenagers. My prayers are with all of your family.

Ellena and Chuck,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a lovely lady. An important person in my life. She helped me learn how to sew and I loved it. As well as cooking, etc. and I remember she was always very kind.
