September 12, 2024
Loretta was born in Paia, Maui, Hawaii to Mariano and Katherine (Castillo) Reyes on November 15th, 1936. She went Home on September 12th, 2024. She is pre-deceased by her parents and several treasured Aunties and Uncles. She was affectionately known as "Unding" to her Hawaii family.
She attended Holy Rosary elementary and intermediate school in Paia and graduated from St. Anthony High School in Wailuku, Maui.
Loretta was a driven student and in 1954, she boarded a plane all by herself to attend Loretto Heights College in Denver, CO. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1958.
Loretta began her career in nursing as a Public Health RN in Colorado Springs and Greeley, CO. She loved children and worked as a Pediatric nurse at St. Francis Hospital and a School Nurse for Harrison School District #2 for 30+ years. She loved her students and was one of the biggest cheerleaders at athletic events!
A blind date in 1958 became the love of her life and she married Ken Montgomery in 1959. They celebrated 65 beautiful years together in August of 2024 and set an example of selfless love for their children.
Loretta and Ken were blessed with 2 children, Mark Montgomery and Jodi (Jeff) Waters. She was doubly blessed with 2 granddaughters, Avery Malia and Shealan Kai. She treasured their time together and made so many memories baking holiday cookies and having sleepovers. She was their one and only Loli and they will carry her in their hearts forever.
She is survived by her loving husband Ken, children Mark and Jodi (Jeff), and her cherished granddaughters Avery and Shea. She is also survived by her Aunty Bobby and many cousins in Hawaii.
Loretta was a diehard Broncos fan, even when it was hard to be one. Loretta and Ken held season tickets for many years. She sprained both ankles while jumping up and down at a game!
She loved dogs and had many that left paw prints on her heart. Her faithful dog, Kimo survives her.
Happy Hour with friends was filled with laughter and it usually followed a round of golf. She used to say she tried real hard to golf, and it was really the connection with friends that made her love the game.
Loretta was an accomplished needle worker and left so many beautiful pieces (including custom Christmas stockings) for Avery and Shea.
Loretta had a heart to serve, and she volunteered with the Humane Society Pet Mobile and dog walker for many years. One of her greatest joys were babies, and after she retired she volunteered at the Memorial Hospital Mother-baby unit doing newborn hearing screening.
After her retirement, she worked part-time with the Visiting Nurse Association assisting in the flu shot clinics.
She left a lasting legacy of putting family first, helping others and the Aloha spirit. A Hui Ho Loli...until we meet again.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, November 30th at noon, Corpus Christi Catholic Church 2318 N. Cascade, Colorado springs. Reception to follow at The Colorado Springs Country Club, 3333 Templeton Gap Rd.
Loretta requested Aloha or casual attire for both. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to National Jewish Health
