Lori Cattarusa Obituary

Lori Christine Cattarusa
Feb. 27, 1961-June 11, 2014
Resident of Concord
Lori Cattarusa passed away on June 11, 2014, after a long and valiant battle against cancer. Lori was a much beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, mentor, and teacher of more than 35 years. She touched many lives during her time with us and is loved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all of those whose lives she touched.
Nominated for teacher of the year, her illness prevented her from participating further. She was tireless in her drive to provide a strong education for all of those she taught. She had incredible strength, courage, sensitivity and was uniquely able to see and interpret things from a position of deep empathy.
Lori most loved spending time with family and friends near water and in the sun. She was born in San Francisco, grew up in Oakland and ultimately settled in Concord, CA. Lori is survived by her husband Don and daughter Jenna. She is also survived by her mother, Lorraine Hosman and brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Teresa Hosman. She was sister to brother Neal Hosman (deceased) and his wife Wendy.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life and accomplishments on Sunday, June 15 at 1:00pm, to be held at the Main Mausoleum Chapel at Mountain View Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611, 510-658-2588. A reception will follow at the Walnut Creek Civic Park Community Center, 1375 Civic Dr at 2:30pm. Dress is casual in honor of Lori and family wishes.
In lieu of flowers, donations to help with college expenses may be made payable to "Woodside for Jenna" and sent to 761 San Simeon Dr., Concord, CA 94518. Alternatively, donations can be made to Fight Colorectal Cancer (http://fightcolorectalcancer.org/)

She passed ten years ago, but her positive impact on our lives is forever. Seeing Jenna grow to be a wonderful young woman is certainly a tribute to Lori. I still miss her tremendously.

Lori was a very special person with a kind heart and warm, caring personality. I worked with her as a teacher at Shore Acres and she was a wonderful teacher and also one of my favorite people there. I remember her with much fondness and I know she will be deeply missed by many. My sincere condolences to her family...

To the Cattarusa Family- We are truly blessed to have known Lori at school. I sub in the school office, and I could see how caring, kind and patient Lori was with the students, the parents, and me. Thank you for sharing Lori with us--she will always have a place in our hearts.

Mrs. Cattarusa was my son's first grade teacher at Woodside Elementary. She was wonderful. Always wore a smile, understood children's different learning styles and special needs. She helped me embark on the process to determining what was going on with my son, who I have learned has autism. I never got the chance to thank her for all that she did for my son. It helped tremendously. She was a wonderful example of a human being. A true angel.

Dear Don, Jenna and extended family,
I had the honor and privilege of working with Lori as a beginning teacher. Her kindness was matched only by her wit and grace. She was a phenomenal teacher and an even better person. Bless you and your family. Sincerely, Gordon Miller
