Louise Robeson Obituary

Robeson
Louise Deakins Robeson
June 30, 1922 - May 14, 2018
Louise Deakins Robeson, 95, of Colorado Springs, passed away May 14, 2018 of natural causes. She was born June 30, 1922 in Piney Flats, Tennessee.
Louise was married to her sweetheart, Edward Robeson for over 68 years, until his death in 2011. They began their married life in Tennessee, and later relocated to Washington, D.C. They eventually settled in Michigan where they raised their four children and were an active part of their community. Despite their years "up north" Louise never forgot where she came from, and was immensely proud of her Smoky Mountain roots. There were words and phrases from her life there that became "uniquely Louise" to everyone who interacted with her - "Holy Jucifer Catfish!" and "Well, for garden's seeds!" are just a couple.
After Ed's retirement, they relocated back to the Tennessee Hills, where so many family memories were made over the years. Missing family who had moved out west, they moved one more time to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2005 to be closer to their daughters, son, grandkids, and ever-growing bunch of great-grandchildren.
Louise was a woman with an amazing zest for life, and she took great pride in her family. They were the source of her greatest joy, and nothing made her happier than a family get-together. Every birthday, ball game, swim meet, graduation, wedding, and milestone was a reason to celebrate, and no one was ever more excited about the successes of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren than Louise Robeson.
She had incredible energy, and she loved meeting people; during their "retirement" in Tennessee, she worked full-time in her 80's at "The Christmas Place." It let her interact with people all day long and provided a little extra money for the surprises that she loved giving her grandkids. Louise loved playing cards, telling stories, Dollywood, meeting new people, Peyton Manning, the Colorado Rockies, Dolly Parton, black coffee, shopping for "just a little something," any excuse for a party, being "just a little naughty", no-bake cookies, "Rocky Top," and her beloved family.
She is survived by her son, Jim (Marissa) Robeson of Northridge, California; three daughters, Linda (Roger) Strong of Canyon Lake, California; Kathy (James) Dillon of Oro Valley, Arizona; and Janet (Mark) Rickey of Colorado Springs, Colorado; as well as thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 19 at Brookdale Skyline at 2365 Patriot Heights, Colorado Springs, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, we ask that anyone who would like to make a donation in honor of Louise to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation do so at https://tribute.tributecff.org/louiserobeson.

I have many wonderful memories of Louise. I missed the South so much after moving to Colorado and she brought a piece of that back when we chatted about Tennessee. Oh my goodness, she was so proud of her grandchildren but always asked after my children and what they were doing as everyone grew up. She had that southern charm and knew the proper way to do things, but I never felt called out if I wasnt doing them the way she would.

When she first moved to Colorado I remember her helping behind the scenes at the kids school with Jan. I have a feeling that working behind the scenes was her way and heaven now has an angel doing the same.

I met Lou years and years ago after Jan became part of the Rickey family. Louise was quiet, full of joy and happiness, but later I discovered she did love to talk but more on a 1:1 basis. She was like my mother, a sweet heart indeed. She was always interested in what "you" were doing!! Jan, Mark and family, I know you will miss Lou tremendously, but she will always be with you when you laugh with the kids, dive into what they are doing and tell stories about the good ol'days!! She will always be with you....

I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs Robeson several times while she lived in TN. She was always welcoming to Lindas friends when we visited. The memories you have will sustain you in this sad time and will be cherished as time goes by. My sincere condolences.

Louise was a beautiful woman who always made me, as a friend of Kathys, feel so special! I felt honored to know her. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten as she instilled so many amazing qualities in her family. Love to you all.
