Missing you brother!

RIP Barky. I remember like it was yesterday, sitting with you on the flight deck of the Cutter Mohawk, singing away, trading Springsteen lyrics. Very poorly, I may add. OK, you sang a pretty good "Backstreets". Better than mine. Will miss you, shipmate.

To The Barkalow Family: My deepest sympathies and condolences to all of you. May you find some comfort knowing Dave was well respected and loved throughout his extended Coast Guard family. I had the honor and privilege to have served with Dave aboard the Coast Guard Cutter MOHAWK, we were plankowners together, and with that came experiences, adventures, and wonderful memories that only a select few ever get to enjoy. Barky always knew how to lighten an otherwise dull moment, or add his own sense of humor or positive twist to a situation or conversation. To my fellow MOHAWK Plankowners and Coast Guard family who have also had the honor in serving alongside this dedicated Coastguardsman, know that I share your sadness in learning of his passing. He will be missed but not forgotten. He will live on in all of us who's lives he touched. I fly our country's flag and CG Ensign at my home, I will lower it at half mast the day of his internment. Rest In Peace LCDR David "Barky" Barkalow. Fair Winds and Following Seas my friend.

I served with Dave for two years on board SHERMAN and have a lot of great memories from that time period. I know he meant a lot to folks onboard and touched a great deal of lives during his time as 1LT. I certainly learned a great deal from him. He will certainly be missed.

Godspeed to you shipmate, we honor you and your service, and pray for your family.

I met David in a property workshop in Boston. He was about to assume duties as the accountable property officer onboard a ship. I lost track of him as his career progressed. I was devastated to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. I know he will be sorely missed.

Dave RIP. What a great honor knowing you. You would always bring a smile to my face when we were on the Mohawk together, and you had a one of a kind sense of humor. Rest well my Mohawk friend.

Such a great well rounded person who inspired many! I will remember the person who pushed people to their potential and made them a better person. My heart is heavy for the Barkalow Family! Dave - I'm going to miss your devious smile, sense of humor, but most of all that ruscky voice, that made Recruits jump out of thier skin - and made me LAUGH. You were a great friend and mentor. I will treasure the memories of our trip to Parris Island - when you laughed at me shooting that damn Bazooka and knocking me off my feat. Everytime you looked at me - we laughed.. I had the pleasure of meeting Dave in 1990 prior to him gratuating from boot camp. I was stationed with him onboard the Mohawk where I really got to know him and his sense of humor and we became friends. He will be truely missed.

I am sorry to here about LT Barkalow I first met him when I was brand new to the coast guard on CGC Hawser and again her in DC a few months ago. he will be missed.

I did not know you that well, but remember you as the Drummer for our house band, Hole in the wall, later changed to Scooters. I was the head bouncer there for 10 yrs. And the years that you and the band played were the best. Later followed you with Eddie over the years. Mr. B, I am so sad to hear that you're gone. You truly taught me some of the most valuable lessons, some professional and some personal. I remember being in awe of you as a seaman recruit and calling you Chief, and then again as an MK2 on the ship, where I called you, XO. You set such a great example for all of us and we didn't even know it at the time. I'll always remember joking about Shouka the whale and all the other fun times myself and the crew shared with you.
