Lt Col David Wesley Riead
(USAF, retired)
Lt Col David Wesley Riead (USAF, retired) passed away on August 25, 2017. He is survived by his wife Eileen, daughters Janet (Scott) and Cynthia (Ed).
Dave was born June 26, 1924, to John and Evalyn Riead in California. The family subsequently moved back their home town of Tamaroa, Ill where Dave grew up. He joined the military during WWII, became a U. S. Air Force pilot, and served in Europe. There he flew missions in his favorite airplane, the Lockheed P-38. Upon returning to the US after the war, he and his sweetheart Eileen were married. Having discovered what was to be his lifelong passion, Dave remained in the USAF and served at duty stations worldwide, finally retiring in Colorado Springs after more than 27 years of service. He and Eileen recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
The family traveled throughout Japan, Europe, the Middle East and the US. US vacations often included his grandchildren and wonderful memories of those times remain. Those who met Dave will remember his warmth, faith, integrity and sense of humor.
After retirement Dave worked several years at TRW. An avid model airplane and train enthusiast, he spent many enjoyable hours with these hobbies as well as boating and water skiing.
A long time member of First United Methodist Church, he was predeceased by his parents and infant son David Wesley Jr. Survived by his wife, Eileen of Colorado Springs; brother Tim Riead of Dallas, TX; daughters Janet (Scott) Epstein of Pueblo; and Cynthia (Edward) Gottlieb of Co Springs, six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services: Sept 6th at 10:00. Lehmberg Chapel, First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Nevada, Co Springs. Interment at Ft Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
