Lydia Windom Obituary

Lydia passed peacefully March 19 with family by her side. She was born March 15, 1943 in Monett, MO to Charles and Helen Jennings, who have predeceased.

Lydia was raised in MO and Alberta, Canada, and graduated high school from the Red Deer High School in Alberta in 1961. She went on to further her studies at Northwest Nazarene College in 1962, graduating in 1965 with a Teaching Degree. She landed a Teaching job in Meridian, ID and met the love of her life, Gary Windom. They were married June 7, 1966.

In 1967 she traveled with Gary to Augusta, GA, then to Fort Bragg, NC where he was stationed. She went on to live in Bethany, OK while Gary served in Vietnam, 1968-1969. When he returned home, they came to this beautiful state of Colorado, stopping first in Denver for about 10 years. In 1979 they moved to Colorado Springs, where Lydia served at Springs First Church of the Nazarene from 1986-2011, while also teaching at NBC (Nazarene Bible College) from 2008 through 2012. In 2013 they moved to Newberg, OR after retiring.

Lydia is survived by her husband, Gary; her daughter, Cara and her husband, Andy Copeland; her son, Weylin and his wife Amanda; her grandchildren, Jack Copeland, Henry Copeland, Lily Copeland, Allen Ford, Anna Windom and Allie Windom. She is also survived by her brother, David (Ann Whitmore) Jennings; her sister, Becky (Dennis) Worthington; and an extended family of in-laws, Jim & Rita Heuring, Roy & Gayle Hines, Ruth Bartlett and Neil Windom.

Lydia was a true leader and witness for the Lord. There was never a time that she wasn't willing and able to help at a moment's notice. She not only taught English, she taught children at church and showed unending love. There are several that won't be able to attend this service for her, but knows that Lydia will know why - Grandchildren! They are away with their grandchildren and there was nothing more that she enjoyed than spending that precious time with hers.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, March 27, 3:00 pm at Springs First Church of the Nazarene, 4120 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs

Lydia was a great friend that we met years ago at First Church.
She was also my Brother, Bill Coulter's Secretary many years ago.

Gary, Cara, Weylin, your family has always meant a lot to me. Lydia was always kind, accepting and loving. Remember when the teens and sponsors were snowed in at Golden Bell!!! All of you and the extended family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers as you now learn how to live without her. But know this: All the prayers she prayed for you are still in effect - they do not end, and her love for you is still with you.
