Lynn Mary Unruh, 71, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away in peace on November 25, 2023, surrounded by those who loved and cared for her deeply.
Lynn was born February 18, 1952, in Long Island, NY. After attending high school at MacArthur High School in Levittown, Lynn continued school at State University of New York at Buffalo, graduating in 1974. She then began her teaching career in Shoreham, NY.
In August of 1981, Lynn saw the opportunity to leave "Wrong Island" and bring her adventurous spirit to the state of Colorado. In Colorado, she managed many elementary school classrooms and libraries, beloved by her students and parents alike for her compassion and dedication to her students. Lynn poured herself into those around her without ever asking for anything in return - as a mother, teacher, and friend. She dedicated 35 years of her life to teaching others.
Lynn's spirit carried into her activities outside her classrooms as well - her track record of mastering a laundry list of outdoor activities qualifies her as a Colorado native in title - hiking every 14-er, being a raft guide, Loveland ski patrol, volunteer guide for Vibes handicap ski program, and an Over the Hill gang guide at Copper Mountain. She was selfless in helping people, whether it be in a classroom or on a slope. Lynn never knew a stranger. If she was not hiking, skiing, or rafting, she could be found on the dance floor at Cowboys. Her love for life and sense of humor was evident to anyone who met her and beloved by everyone close to her.
Lynn's Parents, Ann and Joseph Lamberta and her brother Michael Lamberta preceded her in death. Lynn is survived by her loving daughter, Mariah Unruh, who shares her passion for the outdoors and the dancefloor.
No amount of time with Lynn would have been enough for her family and friends. Lynn's legacy that remains in the hearts of her family, friends, and every student that has walked through her classroom doors.
There will be a celebration of life held in early January 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CASA of the Pikes Peak region or Rocky Mountain Field Institute.

Our first meeting in homeroom at Jonas Salk Jr HS Levittown NY. Age 12 yr. She had an unusual hairdo in a topknot, and I asked if she was Pebbles from the Flintstones.

From junior high at age 12 to our being retired at 71, Lynn and I remained in contact throughout the years and miles. Every time we spoke or hung out, it was as if no time elapsed. We went from reminiscing about Levittown to discussing our plans for the future, be it in Colorado, on the east coast, or throughout the world.

In this past year, Lynn spoke of her lifelong passion of skiing and sent this picture while telling stories of skiing down the slopes as soon as she received the green light to do so. She also told me about her hopes to travel with her daughter, Mariah, in the future, and the recent trip to Alaska that they shared.

Lynn treasured her many friends. She blended in to every story of her adventures the names and stories of each of her buddies with whom she had shared her time. With Lynn, it was always equal parts of what she did as much as the wonderful people with whom she spent her life.

I will miss Lynn and her exuberance about the outdoors, her connections with friends and family, and the way in which she could speak about her daily activities and create meaningful stories of color and warmth.

Knowing you, Lynn, has been a blessing for me.

Yes, those were indeed BEAUTIFUL words written about the dearest Lynn I will ever know. After almost 40 yrs. of a very adventurous friendship, we had many a laugh while hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, rafting on the wild rivers, hiking the 14er's, skiing many Colorado slopes, & fishing for Halibut & Salmon in Alaska (while eating an entire half gallon of ice cream together, because it was cheaper!!) Mariah, I am so happy that you had such a WONDERFUL MOM, who will be greatly missed by so many of us. And I'm glad you got to enjoy so many activities together. Her sense of humor was beyond FUNNY!!!! I'm just happy I was able to fly out from California to be with her 3 weeks before she entered Heaven (with no more coughing) I loved you so much Lynn.......Sincerely, Iddy Shirley

Lynn. Those of us who called you close friend since childhood, will hold you in our hearts always. Your warmth, your love of life, your laughter and most of all your steadfast friendship- all this will stay with us. I will miss your voice and the ease at which we could speak of anything. My lovely friend, rest in peace.

Have to add another note with this beautiful picture of her. It was a gorgeous warm Fall day. I was visiting my cousin Linda in Denver. Lynn drove up to her home to pick me up. The three of us walked on a beautiful hiking trail by Linda's home with the Aspens and view of the Rocky Mountains. Lynn stopped and said this is like Shangri-La we have to take pictures! Then in her mischievous way said "Oh wow this is a perfect picture for my online dating profile.....the men will be running after me for sure"! Well, Linda and Lynn are together waiting for the rest of us in Shangri-La! oxoxoxox
