Maime Schlegel Obituary

Maime Schlegel passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2006, following a brief illness. Born on September 26, 1920 in Ramah, Colorado, she was the youngest of five children born to John and Anna Kascak. Maime attended Snell School in Ramah, and later, Centennial High School in Pueblo, Colorado. She worked for various Colorado Springs employers, including the Boston department store. During World War II, Maime worked at Remington Arms in Denver, and she met Leslie Schlegel, a lieutenant in the Infantry, whom she married on January 11, 1945. The couple lived in 23 towns throughout Kansas while Les worked for a road construction contractor. They then settled in Colorado Springs in the early 1950's. A daughter was born to the couple, and Les worked at the Ideal Cabinet Shop, which he owned, while Maime was a homemaker. In her earlier years, Maime enjoyed belonging to a synchronized swimming team at the YMCA. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs, serving as a volunteer chaplain and an active participant in the Odds and Ends Sunday School class. She traveled around the United States, Europe and the Holy Land, but her favorite place in the world was always her home town of Colorado Springs and the surrounding mountains. She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Schlegel of Colorado; two granddaughters, Leslie Schiesswohl of Oregon and Kristen Schiesswohl of Colorado; one sister, Dorothy Alexander of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. Her loved ones will remember her energetic and enthusiastic approach to life and her devotion to her faith.
