Margaret Boehnke Obituary

Margaret "Jean" Boehnke
October 16, 1931
January 6, 2024

Margaret "Jean" Boehnke passed away in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the age of 92. Her greatest love was for her husband, Roger, of 67 years, her family, and her friends.

Jean was born Margaret Jean Lindeman in Waterloo, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College. Jean was the youngest of five children and the last of her siblings to pass away. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Roger H. Boehnke, and became the wife of an Army Aviation officer.
For the next 21 years, Jean and Roger lived in 22 locations in the United States and Germany. Jean took on all responsibilities of managing the household and raising their two children – Jo Sue and Tom, while Roger served two, one-year deployments to Vietnam. Jean kept up a strong spirit and made sure life was as normal as possible. She was a devoted officer's wife and was active in organizing officers wives' groups.
Jean and Roger moved to Colorado Springs in 1974, after Roger's retirement from the Army. They both were involved in the planning and construction of their dream home on Buckeye Drive. One of her greatest joys was to see Pikes Peak from almost every window in the house. She also enjoyed entertaining and relaxing on the back patio while watching the neighborhood deer and bears, and the birds flocking to their feeders.

Jean worked in the retail jewelry business at The Citadel in Colorado Springs for almost 10 years. She volunteered at First Lutheran Church. She was active in several Colorado Springs' charities benefiting underprivileged and homeless families, such as the Colorado Springs Assistance League and the Colorado Chapter of P.E.O. Jean was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed hosting bridge events.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Jo Sue Pazda, and her husband, David; her son, Tom L. Boehnke, and his wife, Stephanie; as well as her granddaughter, Meredith Padon, and her husband, Cort, and great grandchildren, Presley and Penn.

Jean and Roger were members of First Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, where her ashes will be inurned alongside her husband. A memorial service celebrating Jean's life will be held at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907 on Friday, February 16 at 11:00 AM. A reception at the adjacent Peel House will follow the service. The family requests that donations be made to First Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers or gifts.
