WALTHAM, MA - Ms. Margaret L. Duncombe, 77, formerly of Colorado Springs, CO died March 3, 2024.
Margaret Louise Duncombe was born November 12, 1946 in Brockton a daughter of the late Alfred L. and Louise (Flagg) Duncombe. She graduated from Brockton High School (1964) and earned both her Bachelor and PhD degrees from the University of Denver. She was a professor at SUNY – Plattsburg for two years before transferring to Colorado College in Colorado Springs where she taught Women's Studies and statistics for over 30 years. Margi also served as Sociology Department Chair, Research advisor and was on the Admissions Committee. Margi was an avid supporter and leader in gender equality issues, including bringing a student group to Bejing in 1995 for the International World Conference on Women. While at Colorado College she was a respected colleague, professor and mentor. Margi was instrumental in the implementation of the college's first LGBTQ Council and served as its faculty liaison from its inception. She was also very active in community liberal politics as an active member of Citizen's Project while living in Colorado Springs.
Margi was predeceased by her life partner of 54 years, Zoa Isabelle McGuire in December 2019; her brothers, Bruce F. in 2021 and Peter K. Duncombe in 2011; her sister in law Ginny Duncombe in 2022 and her niece, Judith Duncombe Davis in 2024.
She leaves her sister, Deborah H. Duncombe of Waltham; her sister-in-law, Sharon Duncombe of Gaithersburg, MD and 50 nieces and nephews spanning over four generations.
A Celebration of Life for Margi will be announced.
