Margaret Strub Obituary

"Rejoice with me. On 16 October I celebrated my Graduation Day!" This is the message Peggy wanted to share with her family and friends. She had been suffering various ailments and pain for many months and was eager to let Jesus take her to Himself. As one friend has already prayed, "Remember your servant Peggy, whom you have called today from this world to yourself. Grant that she who was united with your Son in a death like his, may also be one with him in his resurrection." Peggy lived most of her married life here in Colorado Springs. She was born in Hancock, Michigan on 27 October 1930 to Joseph L. and Florence M. (Kob) Adler. She grew up in Houston, TX where she graduated from Lamar High School in 1948. Her mother had been born in Colorado Springs in 1897 and there were many relatives in Colorado, including her brother, Sidney Kob Adler, who was then a student at the University of Colorado Boulder. Peggy followed suit to Boulder and graduated from the University in 1952 with a BA degree -- and four winters of skiing under her belt. She then lived and worked in Houston until 29 December 1956 when she married Air Force Lieutenant James Strub, who had been stationed at nearby Ellington AFB. While stationed at McGuire AFB, NJ, their first child, Jordan, was born in nearby Trenton. While stationed at Texas A&M University, their second child, Heidi, was born in Bryan. In 1962 Jim received orders to the 1st Aerospace Control Squadron here at ADC/NORAD. Peggy was ecstatic -- skiing! She soon got Jim on skis, and then made sure both of the kids got there, too. There was a ski area on Pikes Peak. During the winter of 1967/1968, while Jim was in Vietnam, there was reasonably good snow up there so Peggy took the kids skiing almost every weekend. Jordan ended up becoming an expert skier and is currently living here with his wife, Michele Strub-Heer. Heidi ended up living on the East Coast (Raleigh, NC) with her husband, Charles Nelson. The family also lived in Austin, TX, Montgomery, AL, and Bethesda MD, but always managed to come back here, where they have lived since 1980. In addition to family and skiing, Peggy's interests were Bible Study, various ministries at church, music, painting, and thoroughly enjoying her Creator in the beauty of His Creation, especially the Colorado mountains. She sang in choirs, including the Taylor Memorial Choir at Grace Church. She learned to play the guitar so she could accompany Christian singing. With Jim she co-administered evangelical programs, such as the Alpha Course. She helped found the Walk to Emmaus program here in Colorado and was very active in that for many years. In recent years she was one of the founding members of Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Gleneagle. Her main ministry was the Kairos Prison Ministry, in which she was active from 1984 until recently. She spent many hundreds of hours in prison, mostly at the (now closed) Colorado Women's Prison in Cañon City. At one point the facility became so crowded that there was no longer a room for the Kairos program. Peggy "just happened" to spot a double-wide mobile building for sale here in the Springs and before long set up a special 501(c)(3) fund to raise the $30,000 needed to purchase it and get it moved to Cañon City. The building then became their Chapel. Peggy will be missed very deeply. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Her Life will be at 1030AM on Saturday, 3 November, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church (next to the Gleneagle shopping center).
