Margaret Tillman Obituary

Margaret Tillman, 96, long-time Colorado Springs and Black Forest resident, passed away on Friday, August 19 in Kiowa, Colorado. She was a homemaker and an artist, as well as a wonderful friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.



Margaret Elaine Meek was born on April 4, 1920 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Leslie K. and Bertha (O'Brien) Meek. A graduate of Ponca City High School, she attended Wellesley College. She met Franklin J. Tillman in New York City where she was a student at Parsons School of Design, and he was studying accounting. They were married in 1943, and moved to Colorado after his service in the Coast Guard during World War II.



Margaret was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, and of Black Forest Community Church. She loved many artistic endeavors, including knitting, needlepoint, painting, and doll-making. She enjoyed skiing, tennis, bridge, Mahjong, jigsaw puzzles, and was a big Bronco and Rockies fan. She will be best remembered for her steadfast love for Jesus Christ, and her dedication to her family and many life-long friends.



Margaret will be missed by her daughter: Jane (Charles) Carnahan of Kiowa; her sons: Robert (Rebecca) Tillman, and William (Ann) Tillman, both of Colorado Springs, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1992, her son, James in 2014, and two brothers, J. Robert and Stanton Meek.



A memorial service will be held at Black Forest Community Church, 6845 Shoup Road, 80908 at 11 am on Saturday, Sept. 3. Private burial will take place later at Evergreen Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marian House ministry, where she had volunteered. Checks made out to Catholic Charities may be sent to 228 N. Cascade, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
