Maria Bryant Obituary

Maria Ann (Ellis) Bryant was born in Warren Plains, North Carolina on January 1, 1921 to William T. and Hattie (Alston) Ellis. At the age of three her mother passed, her father passed when she was six. She was adopted by her cousins, Ossian E. and Corina (Riddley) Ellis. She was raised in a very strict, religious and loving home. Ann gave her life to Christ at a very early age. She worked diligently at Warrenton Baptist Church in Sunday School, BTU, The Sunshine Band and became an usher at an early age. Ann graduated from John R. Hawkins High School in Warrenton, NC and Prorow Beauty College in Chicago, IL. She married the love of her life, Benjamin W. Bryant, Jr., on February 3, 1946 and became an Army wife traveling to many parts of the world. Ann became the proud mother of four sons. She first came to Colorado Springs in 1954, joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. E. Eatman where she served until her passing as a Deaconess and a member of the Usher's Board, Mission Society and Sunday School. Ann had many mottos that she lived by: "Let the life I've lived speak for me", Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.", "Honor thy father and mother that thy days may be long on the land.", Give me flowers while I can see and smell them". Ann answered to many names; Mom, Mother, Granny, Mother Bryant, Hey Sis, Miss Ann, Old Folks, Auntie and just plain Ann. She always told her sons about how she grew up and lived a rewarding and fulfilled life, having no regrets and thanking God for all he had blessed her with. Ann was a beauty shop owner when she met Benjamin. After moving to Colorado Springs she became a member of the Eastern Star and very active throughout the Colorado Springs community with Care Colorado and as a poll assistant for public elections. She worked at the downtown Lerner's store and later moved to the Citadel location for many years and retired from there. Ann leaved to cherish her memory: Three sons, Benjamin E. (Romona Fortia), of Colorado Springs, W. Anthony of Anchorage, Alaska, Jeffery S. (Sharon McDonald), Colorado Springs, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two adopted daughters, Mary L. Jones and Juanita F. Davis. She is survived by her sister Pearl E. Ellis of Jamaica, New York, Sisters-in-laws Dorothy Ellis of Newark, New Jersey, Roberta Ellis of Silver Springs, Maryland, Pauline B. White of Henderson, North Carolina and a host of nieces and nephews. Those that went to Heaven before her were her husband, Benjamin W., her biological parents, adopted parents and adopted siblings, brother Lonnie Ellis and son Ronald A. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 17th from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors, 1104 S. Circle Dr., Colorado Springs, CO a masonic evening service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Aloha to the Bryant Family,
My heart has been heavy all week since I learned of the passing of my dear friend. My prayers and thougts are with each of you during this time. She and I shared so many good times, and she was very instrumental in supporting me as an Eastern Star sister. I loved every opportunity to transport and be her personal chaffeur to chapter meetings. :) She would accompanined me during the good weather and the inclement weather, and never ever did I have to wait. She was always ready to go. Talk about a true "traveling woman!"

She always had a kind word and used the time before and after the meetings to instruct and provide me with good counsel. She is and always will be one of a kind. I love you all. I will always be thankful for the friendship that she and I shared through the years. Love ya always PM Ann Bryant. (Sis. Michelle)

To Anthony Bryant:
I am very grateful to have met your mother, Mrs. Ann Bryant. God sends us to Earth for a season and then he receives us again unto Himself.
I witnessed the genuine love you had for your mother and realized that death cannot kill love & human hands cannot bury it, therefore, as long as you live, her love still rests in your heart.
We pray that God will sustain & keep you and your family during this time of sorrow.

Love, Terri Flagg & Family (Palatka, Florida)

My Brothers (Ben, Anthony, Jeff) & The Bryant Family, God is good all the time and all the time, God is good. Praise God our Mother Bryant rests in heavenly places. Mother Bryant experienced an abundant life and we are so happy to have gleaned just a tad bit of her glorious life. She had me hooked from the first bite of her famous sweet potato pie. Xiomara and I will surely miss my annual pies and our frequent cards/gifts from Mother Bryant. I remember when Mother Bryant made by home-buying experience so much easier when we house-shopped together and she gave me the OK to buy the house we own and live in today. The most valuable thing we learned from Mother Bryant is to walk with Jesus, and like her, we will do just that until our own celebration of life.

With all of our love and support,
