Marianne Savarda Obituary

Marianne (Smead) Savarda
May 20, 1948
June 8, 2023

On June 8, 2023 Marianne Smead Savarda, 75, a loving and wonderful wife and mother and talented professional passed away quietly in the company of her husband, son, daughter-in-law and daughter after a short battle with cancer. Although a devastating loss for our family, we find joy and comfort in knowing she has now reunited with her first son Steven. Marianne was born in Painesville, Ohio on May 20, 1948. She was the third child of David and Ruth Smead. As a child, she greatly enjoyed life in the country at her home in Leroy, Ohio with her dogs, cats and horses. After graduating from Riverside High School where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen, she attended Ohio University for her undergraduate studies graduating with a degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. On January 16, 1971 she married Air Force Lieutenant Jim Savarda and began a 25 year military adventure which included raising three beautiful and talented children, multiple moves, a myriad of social events, chauffeuring children to sports games and a professional life worthy of envy. She began as a Speech and Hearing Therapist in an elementary school in Plattsburgh, NY, branched out to sell real estate in Washington D.C. and California and after receiving a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha she became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and established her own practice in Colorado Springs specializing in Perinatal and Postpartum Depression. Marianne was extremely well respected in the medical community, and loved and adored by family and friends. Marianne loved the outdoors, hiking and Colorado Rockies baseball. She had a bright and playful personality that made being in her company a joy. She was a most compassionate soul. Marianne was preceded in death by her first son, Steven. She is survived by her brothers David and Dan Smead, her husband Brigadier General (ret) Jim, son Scott and wife Morgan, daughter Brooke Lewis and husband Scott, granddaughter Sianna Savarda and grandsons Soren Savarda and Cameron and Evan Lewis. A Celebration of Life event will take place at Secret Window in Monument, CO from two o'clock to four o'clock on July 16, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
