Marie Burwell Obituary

Marie Burwell passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at her home in Colorado Springs, CO. Marie was born November 14, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Miles and Mildred Daley. Marie married William D. (Bill) Burwell, Sr. on February 26, 1949. Bill and Marie lived the typical Air Force life. They were stationed in 7 states from coast-to-coast and also in Germany. They retired to Colorado Springs in 1974 and spent winters in Mesa, AZ until Bill's passing in 1992. They had three children; Jeff Burwell (Jan-his partner) of Boise, ID, Kathy Burwell Elsdon (Ron) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Dan Burwell, Jr. (Kylie) of Elbert, CO. Marie is survived by her children, and also 7 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Marie enjoyed Air Force Falcons and Denver Broncos football, big band music, continuing to spend winters in Arizona, and entertaining friends and family who often congregated at her house on Friday evenings. One of her greatest joys was taking her entire family to Disney World to celebrate her 70th birthday. In 2009 she celebrated her 80th birthday by hosting a 50's rock n' roll party at the Air Force Academy Officers Club. She loved life and a good laugh, especially at herself. She was proud of her Irish heritage but proudest of her children, who were her life. Marie was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs. Marie will be interred at Shrine of Remembrance where she will join her husband Bill. Services will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to Ascension Lutheran Church or Pikes Peak Hospice.

I'm going to miss that smile, going out for a good "HAMBURG' , vodka martini's., and our road trips to Arizona. But most of all I'm going to miss your Laugh, it was infectious to me and everyone you met. Love D
