Marilyn Loaring-Clark Obituary
LONGVIEW - Marilyn Meservey was born October 12, 1922, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and passed away August 31, 2014, in Longview, Texas. Marilyn was the only child of Thomas and Letty Franklin Meservey. Her father owned the Lowell Meservey Hardware store in Colorado Springs for many years. Marilyn had a happy childhood, surrounded by a loving family. She graduated from Colorado College in 1944, with a major in sociology.
During World War II, many colleges were on an accelerated graduation track, and it so happened that Marilyn and some of her girlfriends were celebrating that event in the bar of the exclusive Broadmoor Hotel. There they met a group of Air Force officers stationed in Colorado Springs. Marilyn paired off with the dashing Lt. Charles Loaring-Clark, a bombardier from Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was love at first sight, and six weeks later, on April 19, 1944, they were married.
Marilyn began her career as a social worker when she moved with her young family to Houston, Texas, in 1950. In 1955, the family moved to Dallas and Marilyn began a long and celebrated career with the Dallas County Juvenile Department. She began as a probation officer, and ultimately became the Supervisor for the Girls' Delinquency Department and an advocate for youth in the court system. She received numerous awards and citations for her work, including an award named in her honor upon her retirement in 1986. She moved to Hideaway Lake, Texas, where she had many friends, worked as a community volunteer and traveled extensively.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Loaring-Clark; and a son-in-law, Dr. Byron Cook of Longview. She is survived by her son, Bill Loaring-Clark and his wife, Barbara, of Dallas; her daughter, Suzanne Cook of Longview; daughter, Pamela Graham and her husband, Jim, of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude for the loving care of Faith Hospice and to the staff at Fountainview Estates.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be 5 p.m. October 1, 2014, at St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Faith Hospice, 4362B Hwy 259 N, Longview, TX 75605.
