Marion Cooper Obituary

Ben died May 21, 2014, in Memorial Hospital, embraced and supported by his family. He was 83. Born May 30, 1930, on a ranch in Rising Star Texas, Eastland County, and moved to Pueblo, Colorado, when he was 16 years old. Ben's parents were Cleo Burette Cooper and Mary Ella Moore.

Ben is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeannie; his three sons, Marion (Darlene), Polson Montana; Mark (Cathleen), Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Kim, Casper, Wyoming; his six grandchildren; Jordan, Clint, Katelyn, Kristen, Dylan, and Ashlyn; his sister Patricia Smith (Jerry) a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Ben is being remembered as a gifted and talented artist and sculptor who worked for over 60 years in his art career. He had a 33 year career with Public Service Company of Colorado as a commercial artist.

He is best known for his western and wild-life paintings, lithographs, as well as his bronze sculptures. More than his innate artistic ability he was known and loved for his quick and engaging wit, his problem solving intervention skills, his natural communication ability, and his congenial countenance. People were naturally drawn to Ben for his warm and caring counsel.

Ben graduated high school in Pueblo, Colorado; lived in Denver, Colorado, for over 40 years, and then resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the past 10 years, most recently at the Village at Skyline.

At the behest of the deceased no funeral service will be held, the deceased will be interred at his beloved mountain ranch in Park County, Colorado, and a memorial gathering in his memory will be held at the ranch in the coming summer.

A Memorial / Celebration of Life Service will be held on July 26, 2014, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Village at Skyline, 2365 Patriot Heights, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80904.

I was greatly saddened to learn of Ben's death. I remember him being so kind with a laid back demeanor, and what a character. He and Ron Beckham sure had a lot of laughs. I'm thinking about you Jeannie as I often have through the years. Take care of yourself.

Dear Jeannie and Family - please accept our sincere condolences with Ben's passing. He was a gentle and caring person that touched our lives. My daughter, Heather, still wears the gold necklace Ben helped her mold and prepare for casting. It meant the world to her and to me. His artwork was some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. We will hold you close in thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
