Marion Keene Obituary

Marion Morgan Keene passed away peacefully on November 1, 2006, in Colorado Springs. She was born June 24, 1915 in Hay Springs, Nebraska, the oldest of two daughters of Paul C. Morgan and Ethyl F. Morgan. She was a 1937 graduate of the University of Nebraska, where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She married Lyndell F. Keene, also of Hay Springs, Nebraska, on August 2, 1938. She then made the transition from small town Nebraska girl to a U.S. Army Officer's wife with her beloved Lyndell, with a pioneer adventure on war ravaged 1946 Okinawa and to happy times in 1956-59 Heidelberg, Germany, with many moves in between and after. In retirement, she and Lyndell enjoyed trailering to the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas and Mesa, Arizona. After Lyndell's death, in 1988 she became the third resident of Viewpointe Retirement Community in Colorado Springs, where she lived until her death. She was its longest tenured resident, having lived there almost nineteen years. In recent years her limited mobility was overcome through extensive reading - two books and Time Magazine every week. Like her father and son, both graduates of the University of Nebraska, she was a loyal Cornhusker. She is survived by her only son, Ken Keene, of Colorado Springs, three grandchildren -Beth Lusby, of Grapevine, Texas; Paul Keene, of The Woodlands, Texas; and Morgan Sanchez, of Austin Texas; and four great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jean MacLean. Her family wishes to thank the many dedicated employees and fellow residents at Viewpointe, who made her later years so enjoyable, and Patty Haney and the wonderful staff at Life Care Solutions, who made it possible for her to continue to live at Viewpointe when she would otherwise not have been able to do so. Pursuant to her wishes, no services will be held, Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Penrose/St. Francis Health Foundation, or the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region.
