Marion Morris Obituary

Marion "Moe" Eugene Morris, Capt. USN, Ret., born July 4, 1926, passed away at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 2, 2005 surrounded by his loving family only 18 days after the death of his beloved wife of 57 years, Virginia. He was the son of Jason Carl and Mabel Marion (Rarick) Morris of Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Jason Carl Morris, Jr., James Summers, and Patricia MaHarry; and grandson, Phillip Mitchel Armstrong. He is survived by his nine children: Kathie (Bobby) Price, Ken (Maureen) Morris, Susan (Harley) Armstrong, Mark (Jill) Morris, Dolly (Lee) Fairchild, Dennis (Anne) Morris, Mike (Sheila) Morris, Chris (Gloria) Morris, and Matt Morris. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and acquaintances. "Moe" joined the United States Navy in March of 1944 and retired 30 years later. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nautical Science and his Master's Degree in International Relations. His distinguished career resulted in numerous awards and commendations as well as having a glacier and mountain named after him in Antarctica (Morris Glacier and Morris Peak). Upon retirement Captain "Moe" continued his literary career, writing under the name M.E. Morris. He was a renowned author of nine published novels. His novels include: Alpha-Bug, The Icemen, Sword of the Shaheen, The Last Kamikaze, Biostrike, Stealth, C-130-: The Hercules, and H. Norman Schwarzkopf. His most recent novel, Sand Crabs, has recently been fully funded to begin production as a feature film. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at Swan-Law Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with a reception following. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado on Friday, April 8, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations, in Marion's name, be made to Catholic Charities, c/o Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2320 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
