Marjorie Clayton Obituary

Clayton
Marjorie Norris Clayton
December 23, 1920 - December 31, 2017
Marjorie Norris Clayton passed away on December 31, 2017, after a brief illness. She was born December 23, 1920, to the late Harley and Clara (Bell) Smith near Gibbon, Nebraska. She had a brother, Weston (Ann) Smith and a sister Clara Marie (Paul) Kingsley. Both siblings preceded her in death.
Marjorie graduated from Kearney High School in Kearney, Nebraska. Shortly afterward in 1938, she married her husband, Kenneth Jay Norris and moved to Colorado Springs, CO. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage until he passed away in 1984. Marjorie retired from Sears as a secretary to take care of her husband during his illness. They had four children: Jayne (Doug) Worthington, Judy (Dennis) Friesth, Vicki (Frank) Anselmo, and Kenneth Jay (Jill) Norris Jr.
Marjorie married Robert G. Clayton in 1986, and they enjoyed 22 years of marriage until his death in 2008. Marjorie considered herself lucky to be married to two wonderful men and to "inherit" a stepson, Larry (Monica) Clayton and a stepdaughter Sherry (Richard) Walker.
Marjorie enjoyed traveling, bowling, dancing, and reading. She loved to go out to lunch and on shopping trips. Her most recent goal was to celebrate her 97th birthday. Her daughters and granddaughters celebrated with her in her hospice room with balloons and cupcakes on the 23rd of December. She made it!
Marjorie had nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and seven step great-grandchildren with one on the way. She was very proud of her family, and her favorite quote was, "I am the one that started all this mess!"
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jayne Worthington, and her grandson, Anthony Anselmo.
A private graveside service will be held in Kearney, Nebraska at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie's name to Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
