Marjorie Hendricks Obituary
December 4, 1920 - February 3, 2008. Marjorie Jean Hendricks, 87, passed away from this life on Sunday February 3rd at Penrose Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 4, 1920 in Ottawa, Illinois to William Bryan and Margarett P. "Gretchen" Hinkson, the eldest of three children. Marge met Herbert Daniel Hendricks while ice skating on the Illinois River. They married in 1941, two weeks before the young soldier was sent overseas to fight in WWII. Marge waited patiently and with her characteristic optimism for Herb's return four years later from the European Theater. They had two sons and soon moved from Illinois to Colorado Springs where Herb built the family home on 30th Street in 1956. Marge's chief joy and passion was her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was fascinated by the weather and current events. She could converse on most all subjects. An excellent cook and homemaker, she spread sunshine and goodwill wherever she went. She worked for 25 years in the banking business in Colorado Springs at the Colorado Springs National Bank and Exchange National Bank. She was also a Director and Officer of Calco, Inc., a local limestone company from 1970 until 1980, and a Director and Officer of Hendricks Mining Co. in Caribou, Colorado from 1974 until 1998. Marge was also a dedicated volunteer at Penrose Hospital for 18 years following her husband's death in 1979. She is survived by her two sons: Herbert E. (and wife Peggy) Hendricks of Colorado Springs and Tom S. Hendricks of Nederland, Colorado; three granddaughters: Jessica Jean Hendricks and Heather Margaret Hendricks of Colorado Springs and Maggi Mae Hendricks of Nederland; a grandson, Thomas Malcolm Hendricks of Colorado Springs; a sister, Lorraine Schinz from Fort Walton Beach, Florida and a brother, Bob Hinkson from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23rd. Inurnment is at the Shrine of Remembrance Chapel Mausoleum next to her beloved husband.
